Page Thirty -- Science Fiction Collector The Circle of Zero I. Discern Science Fiction is imprisoned in a circle teeming with zero-factors that nullify all stories which encounter them. And this circle is surrounded by a high barrier. Many editors, with the help of their authors, have scaled the heights in an effort to "go over the top." But a steady sustaining effort has not yet been made. However, a number of stories have soared out to pioneer new trails. These have been only too few. They were just nuggets embedded in tens of slag. They were exceptions, rather than the rule. Editors have tried, and are trying, to surmount the circular barrier with "new story policies", "mutants", and so on. These efforts are to be commended. Consider, though: Who will be the first to tear a gaping, permanent opening in The Circle of Zero?
