Bill Crawford, ex-editor of semipro Marvel Tales, surprised & shot Ray Bradbury, Morojo & FJAckerman, each twice, as they emerged from a first showing or pre-christoric pic, One Million BC, & were walking along 7th St tord tho famous LA Club Cafeteria. Shooting took place in broad daylyt & bfor countless Sunday strolling spectators. Cross-examined, Crawford admitted he had done it for their money. Victims expect to receive their snaps in several days as Crawford's candid camera was loaded -- in fact, that's the way he's making his living at present (snapping passersby, that is -- coudnt very well make a living offa fotoging fans!) Next nyt Editor Hernig was visited in his office by author Art Barnes, LASFS Hon Mem Crawford & yurs scientruly. A brief discussion of an important prospective local stfan project took place. (Details one day.)/Sorry, too late now./ Hornig, Crawford, Yorke, & rising young author, Ry Bradbury went for a stroll next nyt, & Daugherty, Bradbury, 4e, & I have jus taken in One Million BC together. [illegible] remaining to see it a 2d tim wyl Ray went home to do some riting & 4e & I, after an interlude on Vom, roturnd to town to take in Black Friday & House of 7 Gables. CITY DESK THE ANNOUNCEMENT of the establishment of a War Dictatorship in Gret Britain brings to mind a pertinent paragraph in John B. Michel's famous speech "Mutation or Death". We quote: "The main point of this whole discussion is that you fans must prepare to incept this new state of things, else nothing is left but a slow, gradual decay of the gaunt corpse of the body stf until it disappears, eaton up by the fiery acid of mighty world events." British fandom may be considered dead today, Australian fandom well on its way out, and, of course, budding French fandom was nipped by the outbreak of war. If we are tricked into the fracas across t h e water, American fandom will doubtlessly go the same way . . . and Tucker wants to know what relevancy the war situation has to the Chioon. /"Mutation or Death" can be obtained at this address @ .05 per copy.
