Jim Kepner's WESTERN STAR #3 CALIFORNIA SCIENCE FICTION NEWSLETTER NORWESCON..... It's too late now to urge you to attend the NORWESCON. As you read this, the Eighth World Science Fiction Convention will be in progress or in history. We can only hope you are or were one of the lucky ones attending. For those who don't know the Norwecon is being held September 1-4 at Portalnd's Multnomah Hotel. AS A FOREWORD --- Sorry Dick Rafael's article came out only half legible in the last issue. By the way, Dick has been having serious appendix trouble, and had to miss the last GGFS meeting, at which he was to have led a discussion on the same general topic as his WS article... And how did we ever manage to gush on so about Plum? Well its off our chest... We're composing this issue directly on multilith plates and thanks unto Don Fabun who's let himself in for the dirty work, which Agnes Rundle's been doing heretofore. ... Our main hope here is for brevity. We thought this mag would average about four pages per issue, but that's what comes of composing on the stencils. xxxxxx CONTENTS: Hubbard announces sure cure for atheism ... page two Renascence at last and other notes on GGFS ... page two Film Notes: Metropolis, Destination & RXM ... page three Don Moore and the crusades against crud ... page four Westercon plans for next summer ... page five and that's all til next time, ghu willing. MEET YOU IN PORTLAND I HOPE OR AT LEAST IN FRISCO NEXT YEAR IF NO A BOMB WESTERN STAR of which this is the third issue, is a non-profit amateur journal appearing in irregular size and in the vicinity of twice a month. It is concerned with the interests and doings of science fiction enthusiasts in the Bay Area, and is edited and generally written by Jim Kemper at 1534 Grant Avenue, San Francisco, 11, Calif.
