[Line break] [Text in two columns: First column] [Underlined and centered] CONTACT: With the loyal support of sufficient members, your Society has blasted off on its official existence. We are now launched as a Corporation, Incorporat-ed not-for-profit, under the Laws of the State of Illinois. While the ef-fort of thus overcoming inertia has darned near drained the Rocket tubes of gold, we are on our way and as we thunder onward we will sweep in more and more power as we attract new members. {underlined and centered] THE ROCKETEERS First of the groups to become members of this Society are the "Rocketeers". This organization is headed by Frank McCourt of 516 West 140th. St., New York City, and those interested should drop him a line. A charter will be issued him for a branch of the United States Rocket Society. Next we are looking for a branch on the West Coast, from the Southwest, and from Omaha, where there seems to be so much interest in spacial navigation. [Centered and underlined] THE "BIG EYE" The California Institute of Technology of Pasadena advises us that they are not able to predict when the 200-inch mirror will be ready. Also in re-sponse to the query as to what they will look at first: they say that it will depend on when it will be ready! [Centered] -o0o- If those d------! Japs bomb Mt. Palomar !!! [Second column] [Each letter underlined] F L A S H E S ! [Faint illustration of spaceship flying centered between title and text below] Look at your membership certificate. If it is [underlined] not numbered, or is num-bered 24 or [underlined] less, your name is on file with the Smithsonian Institute, Wash-ington, D.C., as a far-sighted man who joined this Society prior to its in-corporation. New lists will be sent to them as long as acceptable. [Line break] We have just received two original "Buck Rodgers" panels from Jack Dille, Jr., of National Newspaper Service. Thanks, Jack, and thanks, Dick Cal-kins. [Line break] [Centered] WISHFUL THINKING. Wish we could put out a membership button like the "Science Fiction League" [title underlined] (Thrilling Wonder Stories) sent us. But as long as Sergeant Sat-urn controls the Paladium mines of Venus it doesn't look as if we will be able to! [Centered] ROCKET CONSTRUCTION Mr. H. Emerson Canney is (somehow or other!) finding time to send us a few drawings of possibilities. Rockets that might be, or Rockets that will be, when we get to teh point of large scale experimentation. If any members would like to submit drawings of what they think a Rocket ship should be, we will be happy to add them to our library. [Footnote] Defense stamps taken for U.S.R.S. memberships. Buy a stamp and join the United States Rocket Society! Because--no fooling, Hit-ler wants the moon! See our next news page, Oct. 15, approximately.
