36 white blouse, it is white and beautifully pressed. When she is absent, as she frequently is, she always comes in and makes up her work without being told. She is friendly and at ease. In my work the racial question comes up frequently. She is sensible about it and at no time have I felt that she has been embarrassed. The students are courteous and thoughtful of her. the In/beginning of the year some of the students during a discussion of the book "Races of Mankind" were afraid that she would be hurt and so came to me about it.I told them she was an intelligent girl, that she wanted the facts discussed intelligently and that to have her in the class was an asset. We have had many discussions since then. I have felt no strain of any kind on the part of the Negro girl or the other students (#5081 - schedule 129- high school) Participation in School Activities Ninety-percent of the 80 teachers replying reported that Negro boys and girls seemed to participate with a feeling of belongingness in all school activities. 1. Among the 61 teachers who answered the question concerning Negro children's participation in extra-curricular activities, 55 or 90 percent reported that Negro children participated freely. 2 However, it is interesting to note here that the most of the appendix tables concerning negro children are based on distributions of replies reaching as large a number as 80. In Appendix Table 30 the number replying drops to 61. In Table 3 only 42 teachers, among the 75 or 80 who might have responded, went on to name specific activities in which Negro boys and girls were participating. Parties and dramatics fall at the bottom of the 1. Appendix Table XXVI 2. Appendix Table XXX
