The manufacturing firms are lowest in representation of Negro workers, and they are equally divided in degree of willingness to use Negro employees. The transportation and communications firms are low in the proportion using Negro workers but high in actual number of such workers employed. Apparently there is a significant proportion of these firms willing to use Negroes workers, although a small minority express concern over difficulties. The wholesale and retail trades are high in utilization and degree of willingness; but they also show concern over actual or anticipated difficulties. Although a fifth of the business and repair firms employ Negroes, a larger proportion of them are not willing than willing to extend their utilization there is also a noticeable expression of concern over difficulties.
