FAN-ATIC, Vol 1, No 2. March 1941. Page 7. COMPLIMENTS AND OTHERWISE. by YOU This is where you suckers who traded or bought this lousy fanmag tell us editors (Boling and Yehudi) how good it is and how badly it stinks. All comments are extremely welcome, compliments even more so. Marvis Manning - Co-editor of PLUTO. (P.S. PLUTO is now dead.) Decker, Indiana. Dear Charles:- Received the copy of your first issue of FAN-ATIC today, in my opinion it is a very good first issue. "Devil's Asteroid" by Wellman, is provocative, in the sense that all of us fans will now be constantly on the look-out to find the story when it appears, to finish reading it. That sure is a new and unusual slant of something or other. Illustration for the story, frankly not so hot---due mainly I think to not quite enough time on it and the hektoing not any too good. Hektoing for the script in the mag is very distinct and OKAY. "Feet Stanks" rates about 7 (Harry Warner's system) Editorial, filler items, and Biographies all average about the same 7. Like your fanmag review. (PLUTO got in it and we always like to see words on PLUTO--) New Year's Resolutions, 8. Announcement under the heading "IMPORTANT" 6. No foolin'-----FAN-ATIC is a nice first issue*************** L. R. Chauvenet - Editor of DETOURS. (P.S. DETOURS is dead too.) Esmont, Virginia. Dear CB ............. Didn't like remarks of yours about attacking "Communist" fans. Said as much in DETOURS. Tolerance "uber alles". Harry Warner, Jr. - Editor of SPACEWAYS and HORIZONS. 303 Bryan Place Hagerstown, Maryland. Dear Charles: Thanks for the first issue of FAN-ATIC. Not bad for a starter, and I'm sure you'll improve as time goes on. Liked best the book review, and at least in my copy the hektoing isn't as bad as it was supposed to be. I suppose you're willing to trade with SPACEWAYS? ((and how-ed)) D.B. Thompson - Well known fan and letter writer. 2302 U Street. Lincoln, Nebraska. Dear CAB, First---FRAME your covers, hereafter. (There are some good looking fanag covers which are not framed, but they are rare.) Cut down the total length of the spread of the letters in the name. Since you are using hekto on the cover use a great deal more solid color, or dots or lines. (Look at FANFARE and FRONTIER) Continued on next page.
