fAN-ATIC, Vol 1, No 2. March 1941. Page 16. CONCENTRATION Continued. by Philip A, Schumann This sphere would actually be a world of "SLANS"; a world of superminds, and the era of mankind would see greater happiness; physical comfort; peace; scientific and industrial progress than it had in all the 500,000 years of more of its existance. ####################### DIRGE FOR DEAD HAGS by Archer Cusp [[there are two hand drawings of tombstones with starts on them on the both the left and the right of the poem]] Hard on the eyes, light on the purse, Long on plot and short on diction, Pretty bad... but they might be worse. The little mags of science-fiction. Only their editors mourn when they die. Worn out by a pace too brisk; And only their editors know where they lie- Tombs marked by an *. ####################### VILLANELLE. Earl Singleton-- To Lilith in her vampire fane-- A subterrane seraglio-- I knelt and prayed; and prayed in vain. From rafters dripped a horrid rain, A monster snarled and gibbered low To Lilith in here vampire fane. "Satanic Beauty! Will you deign To whisper what I dare to know?" I knelt and prayed; and prayed in vain. Her face was close: "What death will gain You, learn now; for a fee you owe To Lilith in her vampire fane." Cat-cigars upon my throat were pain And pleasure blended; long ago I knelt and prayed; and prayed in vain. Her teeth tore through one pulsing vein; I felt the blood a torrent flow. To Lilith in her vampire fane I knelt and prayed; and prayed in vain. ####################### Read SUN SPOTS. The official organ of the Solaroid Club, it is published monthly at 31 Bogert Place, Westwood, N.Y. 5 cents a copy mimeoed. About 24 pages of Stories, Articles. Poetry, Illustrations, and Departments by the nation's leading fans. Don't wait, send for it at once.
