SPACEWAYS FROM THE CONTROL ROOM Evil days, chilluns, are upon us. And for the first time in a year, finances are plaguing us. It's like this. Every summer in general, and around Convention time i n particular, during the almost three years Spaceways has been published, subscriptions drop off a bit. The reasons are qui te evident, of course: the general slackening of fan activities during warm weather, and the confusion caused by conventions. Last summer it was pretty bad, but we managed to get through. This year, unhappily, it seems worse. It's probably because the Convention was held during the hottest weather. But anyway-- There's apt to be a bit of retrenchment for the next few months. By fall we think things will get better, just as they have done the last two years. But for the present, it's going to be necessary to slow up publication schedulo. In other words, this issue is appearing two months after the preceding one, and unloss things pick up bettor than we dare hope, the next on o won't be out until October 15. After that, we hope, the pick-up in subscriptions will arrive again with the cold weather, just as it has in the past. That'll mean only seven numbers in vol. 3, but it just can't be helped. However, if you'd like to be of some help, you can, and we'd appreciate it tremendously. We don't, definitely, want charity. We have a quaint idea that subscription fanzines should not have to be supported by contributions for which the payer receives nothing. But there are any number of ways in which the payer receives nothing. But there are any number of ways in which you can be of assistance. If you have something to advertise, for instance, and would tell about it in a Spaceways -- ad rate on page 2 -- that would be a big boost. If you've formerly been subscribing only one issue at a time, and would care to send a quarter, or if you've been in the habit of getting three-issue subs, and would renew with 50c next time your sub runs out, that'll be swell. Or most important of all, if you could get us a few new subscribers, you'd be doing the best thing of all.
