YOU LOOK... ...and you want others to look at YOU as an appropriately dressed collegiate coed. As you shop, try on, and eventually buy, one question undoubtedly keeps lingering in the back of your mind: "What do SUIowans really wear?" The answer?-everything under the sun ranging from casual skirts and sweaters to cut-off levis and baggy sweatshirts! Yet, remember, SUI will form its first impression of YOU by your appearance, so dress in good taste, keep in mind that this "everything" we speak of has its place, and SMILE! Before exhausting your total budget on that "collegiate look," don't forget that all the clothes you have now, even the high school togs that you're just positive are outdated, will be like new outfits to the SUI campus because we've never seen them! Although it may still be warm and summery in September, we rush the season by starting out in dark cottons, sweaters, blouses, and skirts. This casual look, accented with bobby socks and loafers or "tennies," will take you to classes, meetings, and day-time coke dates. A quick change to hose and flats and you'll "fit in" at a football game, movie, or even a dance date. Already you can see that quantity is not an important aspect of SUI fashion. A basic wool dress or suit, for example, will take you to Sunday dinner, church, teas, plays, and concerts. If you choose a simple, versatile style, attractive accessories are all that are needed to give this basic dress a new look. Formal wear is even more basic and you'll look your best for these dressy occasions in a cocktail dress, simple sheath, or dressy wool. Picnic, "woodsy," and dorm wear demand sweatshirts, blouses, bermudas, slacks, and cut-off levis. Sportswear and comfortable lounging and study clothes are the most popular and most worn items in any coed's wardrobe. For protection against the elements, you'll need your trench coat or heavy wrap for wear on colder days. A blazer or car coat will serve you well when the sun dips behind the stadium walls at the Saturday football games. You'll find wool scarves, gloves, and an umbrella useful, and Iowa City winters usually call for snow boots for your 7:30 a.m. jaunts through the drifts to class! When April sun begins to warm the air, coeds head for the sun decks atop the residence halls and bathing suits are definitely "in" as you welcome those first days of spring. Not only will you be comfortable, but you'll find that you've acquired that desired collegiate look if you choose practical clothes that suit your budget, your personality, and YOU! 8
