Enter Stage Left With stardust in your eyes you stand in the wings awaiting your cue to enter as a new star, the U of I coed. Associated Women Students would like to welcome you as you make your first appearance. Every "old hand" was once stagestruck, and for you, too, the awe will soon melt into a warm glow that comes from new friendships, new experiences, and a wonderful opportunity to broaden your perspectives. We hope this book can dispel an few worries and answer some of the many questions you have about your life at the U of I. The action at Iowa is akin to that of a variety show-sometimes a melodrama, often a comedy, and occasionally a tragedy, when that paper you slaved over gets panned by your instructor. It is never dull, however, and you'll soon be caught up in your own part, one you will carve for yourself from the many interpretations of University life. Your applause will come from playing your role with all the talent and ability you know you have. When you set foot on the U of I stage, you'll be one of some 3,500 new faces, but you won't go unnoticed. Rehearsals have been going on for Orientation, a series of programs planned just for you. Your agent will be your Orientation leader, whom you already may have met through her letter to you. She will be your "big sister," and she is anxious to make your adjustment to college an interesting and exciting experience. Each activity of Orientation is especially for you, so don't miss any of them. Your first Orientation program will be a mass meeting of all U of I freshmen at the Field House. Here you'll see assembled the class of 1969, and be introduced to the student and administrative leaders of the University. You will be briefed on the events of the coming week, and will meet the other freshmen in your Orientation Group and your Orientation leaders. When the meeting ends, the leaders will accompany your group of approximately twenty new students to the home of a faculty member. The gathering 4
