If your interests are in line with those of the YWCA, this is the ideal place to begin. HOSPITAL SERVICE A program to provide volunteer service for local hospitals is the desired goal of the YWCA Hospital Board. Its work is carried out through six committees: crippled children, visitation, reading, psychopathic, Oakdale (Tuberculosis Sanatorium), and special projects. Providing entertainment, remembrances, and personal attention, its participants attempt to make the life of those confined more cheerful. Such a program not only has proved rewarding to its recipients but to its volunteer workers as well. MAJOR IN MARRIAGE Knowing well the interest every girl has in marriage, the YWCA has instituted a series of educational lectures on both the psychological and physiological aspects of marriage. Open to all students and to the general public, their announcement appears in The Daily Iowan, and on campus bulletin boards. In addition to attending you may want to serve on the committee responsible for these programs. If so, information will be available at the "Y" Booth at the Activities Open House this fall. WORLD RELATEDNESS The Nation and World Commission of the YWCA provides an opportunity for "Y" members to become acquainted with foreign students on our campus and help them feel welcome. Forming discussion groups on current problems within the states or abroad, its aim is to promote greater understanding between students of all nationalities. CAMPUS AND PERSONAL SERVICE The Campus and Personal Life Commission of the YWCA focuses its attention upon two main areas: student faculty relations and summer job opportunities. Members of the faculty are often invited by this group to speak at "Y" meetings, as well as to attend various social gatherings which allow for a free interchange of ideas between them and the students. In accordance with its second line of activity this commission maintains records of employers who often need student help during the summer months. COMMUNITY SERVICE Each Saturday morning "Y" girls have an action packed three hours. They teach roller skating, trampoline, dancing, swimming and crafts to Iowa City children under sponsorship of the Community Service 29
