Page 3 [hand written] to Chap IV It must be recognized that the University does not approve housing facilities in the community for married students and for students 21 years of age or older, but the Committee may hear complaints from students or staff members in these categories and recommend educational and remedial action if the facts so warrant. [ to Chap IV] CHAPTER IV HOUSING REGULATIONS I General Regulations. All single undergraduate students under age 21 are required to reside in quarters approved by the University Students who have reached the age of 21 prior to or at the time of registration for a session are not subject to this requirement. No exceptions will be made. II. Approved Quarters A. General approval is given to the living quarters of the following undergraduate students at the University: 1. Those residing with parents. (Permission must be obtained from the Office of Student Affairs for students to reside with close relatives.) 2. Those residing in quarters operated by the University 3. Those residing in men's and women's fraternity houses 4. Those who reside in approved rooming houses, with or without cooking privileges. Rooming houses and householders are approved by the Office of Student Affairs if satisfactory audit supervision is provided and the householder agrees to enforce regulations of the University concerning the accommodations to be furnished and the conduct of the residents. B. Any approved facility is restricted to residence solely by men students or solely by undergraduate women students. 2. After Jan 1, 1964 approval by the University, of any off-campus housing facilities for single undergraduate students under twenty-one by the period beginning June 1964 shall be granted when the householder has accepted in writing the conditions, policy, regulation and standards for University approved off-campus housing as prescribed in the Code of Student Life. 3. In performing its service of listing available off-campus housing facilities for married students and single students over twenty-one years of age (which do not require University approval), the Office of Student Affairs shall list only those facilities in which the owner or manager accepts in writing the condition, policy, and standards for University as prescribed in the Code of Student Life. 4. In any case of a proven violation of this standard of fair housing, actions ranging from further educational measures to removal from the University's approved housing registry which will require students to move from such facilities, shall be taken In order to insure that the rights of all parties will be adequately protected, procedures have been formulated for the filing, investigating and hearing of complaints involving discrimination. Such procedures are designed to insure all parties concerned an adequate and fair opportunity to present their case. The following procedures are recommended: [to chap [III?]] (Although these rules apply only to University listed or approved housing, the Committee will receive and investigate complaints as to discrimination in other housing. Although specific sanctions are not available in this other area, the Committee will, upon a finding of discrimination, undertake conciliatory and educational activities toward its elimination)
