PHILADELPHIA B. F. KEITH'S DECEMBER 27th 20 KINOGRAMS & "TOPICS OF THE DAY" - Good. OLLIE YOUNG & APRIL - A pretty novelty that did very nicely in the opening position. (9 mins.) MACK & LANE - (16 mins.) A "nut" comedy turn by a man and woman. They have a lot of snappy material, which they handle with only fairly good results. It is just a fair turn. MRS GENE HUGHES & CO. in "Contented Peggy" - (23 mins.) This new sketch proved a very good successor to her former vehicle as far as our audience was concerned. It was a good sized applause hit in this spot, and helped to give the show a splendid start. Mrs. Hughes, as usual, gave a splendid performance of a character role. The act closed to a big hand. LADDIE CLIFF - (15 mins.) This being his first appearance since coming from London he was a trifle nervous but he is still the same big favorite and was given a warm welcome. His songs are all new and he has a couple of comedy dance numbers which scored solidly and he closed strong. KARYL NORMAN "The Creole Fashion Plate" - (26 mins.) This remarkable artist was always a big hit here but with his wonderful gowns, new songs and beautiful settings he was a positive sensation and the audience could not get enough of him. He was forced to sing two extra numbers and then make a little speech of thanks begging off. He should be the talk of the town. THREE MISSES DENNIS - (14 mins.) These girls did very well in this spot with their attractive appearance, good voices and excellent harmony. It is a classy singing turn that will appeal to those who like good music. Closed to a very good hand. WOOD & WYDE - (26 mins.) Their new comedy and travesty made a decidedly good impression on our audience, getting plenty of laughs and applause all the way through, finishing to a very good hand. FRANK HURST - (16 mins.) A shift in the running order brought him down to the next to closing spot and he held it in very good shape. He has a pleasing voice, some good songs and gets them over. Closed to a good hand. THE RIOS - (9 mins.) The act gave us a very good closing number for this show. It is attractive and the routine of work on the rings by the man and woman got them a liberal hand. GENERAL REMARKS - This bill was thoroughly satisfactory and went over big. It was necessary for Frank Hurst and Laddie Cliff to change places in order to avoid a delay setting for the "Fashion Plate". Hurst held the next to closing spot in fine style and the whole show scored strong. CUTS Frank Hurst - Eliminate word "Damn". Mrs. Gene Hughes - Word "Damn" Mack & Lane - Eliminate the line "A-broad! Why I have been a man all my life."
