PHILADELPHIA B. F. KEITH'S SEPTEMBER 19 1 FABLES & "TOPICS OF THE DAY" - Very good. HERMAN & SHIRLEY - (13 mins.) The same act they have been doing for several seasons. Made a very satisfactory opening act. MADELON & PAULA MILLER - (13 mins.) These two girls did very nicely with their instrumental music, songs and dances. Held down this spot nicely and closed to a very big hand. "SHADOWLAND" - (13 mins.) A pretty novelty but lacking "punch" and it was received very lightly by our audience. It is a colorful offering but the dancing is hardly spectacular enough to hold it up and it closed poorly. BENDER & ARMSTRONG - (11 mins.) They have built up a "nut" comedy turn preceeding their one big acrobatic trick and got a lot of laughs. The foot trick, which is the only one they do, gave them a great finish and they closed very strong. JOSEPHINE VICTOR & CO. 29 mins.) This is a neat playlet and scored a solid hit. It is beautifully played, carries an unusual story which held the house interested from start to finish and closed to a very big hand. NEWHOFF & PHELPS - (24 mins.) Here is an act that has arrived not only as a singing but a comedy act and one that should be working every week. A good selection of songs, all well done, and they were one of the big applause winners of the bill. "CHIC" SALES - (28 mins.) Owing to the non-arrival of the baggage of the Garcinetti Bros. Sale was put on in this spot and cleaned up a big laughing and applause hit. His act is better than ever. WILLIAM BRACK - This act repeated strong for us. It was shifted to the closing position at the afternoon show and held the spot in great shape. GENERAL REMARKS - The loss of the Garcinetti Bros. caused a change in the show the bill rounded out all right and with two or three good sized applause hits made a very satisfactory show. CUTS - GENDER & ARMSTRONG -"Many a dirty dish is in the sink". NEWHOFF & PHELPS - "Take off that heavy underwear." "Indian Guide" and line in song "The rich get richer and the poor get children." NOTE! - The Garcinetti act went into the show in the evening, taking "Shadowland's place, third position, and scored a good sized hit. "Shadowland" was a much improved act closing the show, holding the audience almost intact and getting a liberal hand. The changes made a big improvement in the whole bill.
