72 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KETIH'S CHESTNUT ST. THEATRE, PHILA. MAY 30TH TWO FENNELS-13 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman, singing and acrobatic dancing. Feature of the act is a clog dance by the man, the woman is standing on his shoulders. Acceptable for the three-a-day section. AL COLEMAN-12 mins. in One-Mimic and story teller. Well known on the circuit. Gets by if on early enough. All right for an act in one in an unimportant place. He worked hard, but couldn't seem to arouse a great deal of enthusiasm. ED. & NETTIE MARSH-13 mins. -Gar. in 3-close in one-Man and woman, comedy juggling act, and went well. He is very clever with small stuff, and could use his skill to get together a very good act, if he had the ambition. Very good for the three-a-day section. PERRY & RANDALL-17 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman. Woman opens the act with a song. She can't sing. Man comes in dressed in a military suit, and proceeds to recite a piece of poetry on the style of "The Face on the Barroom Floor." Audience went to sleep. Then the man sits down on a chair and sings a funny (?) song. Woman then executes a clog dance, and again the man sings, leaning on the proscenium arch. Small hand and a few laughs. WATSON & HILLS-10 mins. in one-Two men, song and dance team, working in tuxedos and opera hats. Good, lively three-a-day act; lively music, lively singing and good dancing. RICE FAMILY-17 mins.-Pal. in 4-close in one-Two little girls about 8 or 9 years old and one boy about 12 years. Open with three violins. Boy then plays for violin solo "Cavalleria Rusticana." Three children then play and dance minuet with light effects. One girl then offers two classical selections and the three close with a lively air. Very good act. SADIE MARTINOT, Assisted by Chas. R. Wells-25 mins.-Fancy in 3-In a sketch "Winning a Widow." The sketch is really a dialogue with little or no action. The lines are bright and humorous in spots, and the story is really interesting to follow, as both Mr. Wells and Miss Martinot are clever enough to act their lines in an artistic and finished manner. A good act, and Miss Martinot's name will draw money. MISS BABE LUND-14 mins. in one-Character songs, with quick changes of costume. Her singing is only fair, but she managed to get some applause. Pretty stiff place for her, and she will probably go up some on the bill. Not strong enough for the two-a-day section by comparison. TEN BROOKE,LAMBERT & CO.-24 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-close in one-Two men and a woman, in a comedy musical act, entitled "Prof. Schmalz's Acadmey." Received applause from the start and proved to be an exceptionally strong act of its kind, the violin and piano offering going unusually well. The act was probably the applause and laughing hit of the show. MONROE, MACK & LAWRENCE-22 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-. The sketch is a new one called "The Two Senators." It contains plenty of action and gets many laughs, with a good windup. Probably went as well as their former sketch which always got the laughs. FRANK BUSH-15 mins. in one-Monologue. One of the best story tellers in vaudeville. BROS. MARTINE-12 mins.-Pal. in 4-Acrobats, using the bounding net. One works as tramp; other straight. Good act. BIOGRAPH-20 mins.-Sheet.-Good selection of views. H. A. DANIELS.
