112 CRITICISM OF SHOW. AUG. 1ST. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE, PHILA. JOS. BELMONT-12 mins. in One-The Human Bird, vocalist and mimic. A very good three-a-day act, entertaining throughout. DELBERG SISTERS-12 mins. in One-Two young girls, character songs and dances. A very lively little singing and dancing act for the three-a-day section. Good act. McKINNON & REED-15 mins. in One-Two men, blackface talking act. Very ordinary. They have a few good jokes, but the bulk of their talk is neither interesting nor entertaining. Their dancing at the close just managed to get them off with a very little applause. TOLEDO & PRICE-12 mins.-Gar. in 3-Man and woman, neatly dressed, in a good three-a-day acrobatic and contortion act. JULIA RALPH-11 mins.-C.D.F. in 2-close in One-Monologue. Presents bits of character work. She portrays the heroine, the villain, etc., the characters of a play, burlesqueing them. The idea is good, but the audience didn't seem to "catch on" to what she was trying to do--they took it seriously. Therefore, most of the comedy was entirely lost. The artiste was at fault. The act did not go very well. It was not bad--but it was not understood. EARL & WILSON-20 mins.-C.D.F. in 2-Close in One-Man and woman, instrumental music and talking act. Well known on the circuit. A good act for the three-show section. Unusual in that the woman does the comedy. CARLETON MACY & MAUD EDNA HALL-24 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman, comedy sketch "A Timely Awakening." A clever little comedy offering, which, by the way, has a great deal of love mixed with humor; also a little pathos, but an entertaining little sketch that seemed to please. A good act. MME. SLAPOFFSKI-12 mins. in One-Prima Donna Soprano. First selection was the "Jewel Song" from "Faust;" then "Scenes That Are Brightest" from "Maritana"; and Tosti's "Good Bye." Descriptive adjectives are useless--she is simply the best singer that has ever entertained an audience in this theatre. BURKE, LA RUE & INKY BOYS-22 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-close in One-Man, woman and two young colored boys, doing their "restaurant" sketch. A good, lively comedy act. Was received with laughter and applause throughout. Very good act. BOYS IN BLUE-20 Mins.-Spec. in 5-Same company as the Hoosier Zouaves, doing a similar act, with added spectacular effects; fireworks, battleship, a town burning, etc. A good act of the "thriller" class. They have a lot of stuff to handle in the way of props. and scenery, and the act will go well when it works well. Good act. MADDOX & WAYNE-23 mins. in One-Two men, talking act, one man working as a messenger boy; other as an actor. One of those crazy talking acts, so full of nonsense that everyone seems to laugh and all appear to thoroughly enjoy the comedy. Very good act. [CONN?] & CONRAD-20 Mins.-Among other pictures one of the college rowing races at Poughkeepsie. An excellent picture. H. A. DANIELS.
