157 NEW YORK CRITICISM: WEEK SEPTEMBER 26th: FOSTER & DOG "MIKE": Drop 2, 15 Mins. HR-3 shows. This is a wonderful dog. He has a lot of new material and the act went better than before. CASTLE & COLLINS: NH-3: Two men, Drop one, 14 minutes. Blackface singing and talking. Good act for the three-a-day section. VONTELLA & NINA: KR-3: W & M. full stage, 9 minutes: Very pretty ring act. They are of good appearance, work with ease and perform some difficult tricks. An excellent act for this section of the bill. GREEN & WERNER: GNH-2: M & W. Open in one, close full stage. 15 minutes. In one with two songs, then change to full stage, with them made up as "Zulus", using their own scenery. The act is an extreme novelty, and it was a pity to bury it so early on the bill. Will give them a better place to-night. HARRY B. LESTER: AR-3: Drop 1, 3 s. 17 minutes: Singing comedian and imitator. With a few jokes, a little singing and some clever impersonations. His character of Geo. M. Cohan was strongly applauded. CLEMENT de LION: GRR-2: Full stage, 14 minutes: This man made his American debut to-day as a manipulator of billiard balls and cards. He palms the billiard ballas as Nelson Downes does the coins and without the least deception. He handles as high as four billiard balls at one time. The act is novel and went very strong. SIG. GERMINAL: YRR-2: Drop 1, 8 minutes: This is the second week of this wonderful baritone and according to the manner in which he was received, he is good for another week. His rendition of "Les Rameaux Palms, was thoroughly applauded. WM. HARCOURT & CO: MHR-2: One man two women. Full stage, 25 minutes. This is the first New York appearance of this clever actor. He is presenting the comedy "A Dokota Widow", taken the mistaken identity idea for the plot. The women are both good. One does the straight while the other plays the part of the maid. The lines are bright, situations funny and contains numerous laughs. The act was very warmly received and he responded to several curtain calls. FOUR AVOLOS: YGR-2: Two men and two women. Drop 2, 11 minutes: Xylophone solos, playing popular airs, and are the best of their kind that we have ever played here. SOCIETY BELLES: YYH-2: Five young ladies full stage, 15 minutes. This act is rather a disappointment. The girls are only fair singers and dancers. The costumes are magnificent. The prima-donn's voice is away off, and a detriment to the act. The girls make four distinct changes, while the prima-donna tries to sing. The act is picturesque and unless there is a change in the prima-donn's voice will place them earlier on the bill. IRVING JONES: GRR-2: Drop 1, 18 minutes: Real coon singer, with a few stories. This man's peculiar mannerisms caught the house as usual. BYRON DOUGLASS & CO: GHR-2: Full stage, two men, one woman, 21 minutes: This is the first appearance here of this capable character actor, who offers an excellent comedy, entitled "The Cowboy and the Lord". He impersonates an English Lord to gain the consent of the girl's father, and failing, assumes the character of the Cow-boy. His character work is clever. The woman is Henrietta Browne, who does some good work. The act is quaint and contains numerous laughs. Considering the lateness of Mr. Douglass' appearance he held the audience to the finish. QUIGLEY BROTHERS: YHR-2: Drop 1, 17 minutes: Irish talking comedy, "Congressman at Large". They have a lot of new material and were very well received.
