177 NEW YORK CRITICISM: OCTOBER 10th 1904: ALLEN J. SHAW: HR-3: 13 mins. in one. Young man coin and card manipulator on the same style of T. Nelson Downes. Fully as good at a cheaper price. He is entitled to better place on the bill, but with this monster show there is no other alternative. MOONEY & HOLBEIN: GRR-3, 16 mins. full stage. Man and woman, singing, dancing and high kicking, with a little concertina and mandolin playing. The man is a good dancer and the comedy well received. The act is excellent for the three-a-day section. E. J. RICE: NH-2: prop in one, 16 mins. Monologue Comedian, giving us some new material with part of his act as seen before. The material is good and was very well accepted. He is fully entitled to a better place on the programme. LaVINE & LEONARD: KR-3: Full stage, 16 mins. Two men as the Juggling Automobilists. They make their entrance on an automobile, one made up as eccentric character and the other straight. The They make their entrance on an automobile, one made up as eccentric character and the other straight. The juggling is fair, the comedy good. The explosions on the automobile amused the audience immensely. The act went good and is an excellent number for an early place. MISS HELEN REIMER: GRR-2: Drop in one- 18 mins. A young woman impersonating several characters, as "A Busy Club woman", A Soulful Maiden", and "A Reformer". Her singing is good, and her character work excellent, except that of "A Reformer", which I have requested her to eliminate until it was rewritten with more up-to-date lines, With this change I believe this act would make good in any bill. FADETTES WOMAN'S ORCHESTRA: HRR-2: Full stage, 34 minutes. The selections were excellent, Every number being encored. It is only necessary to repeat former criticisms of this grand vaudeville number, and say, "it is the greatest attraction in the musical line that has ever played this house". CLIFF GORDON: GHR-2, Drop in one. 18 mins. Young man impersonating a German comedian, in a political speech "A la Sam Bernard". Every line a scream. He had the audience this afternoon following 34 minutes of music, therefore, scored a tremendous hit. He asked permission to work without his drop, which detracts from his act, and I fully agree with him. Mlle. CHESTER: GYH-2, Full stage, 9 mins. Introducing her beautiful statue dog, a genuine novelty in ten poses. Extended criticism not necessary as the act is well known. The act proved a big treat and they thoroughly appreciated the tableaux. FORD & GEHRUE: YHR-2, Drop in one, 13 mins. Man and woman in a singing and dancing specialty. This is the greatest dancing act that plays this house. The act is nicely dressed. They have excellent personality, and it went strong. WARD & CURRAN: YRR-2, Full stage, 29 mins. Two men in a comedy sketch, a new version of "The Terrible Judge". Ward as the Judge is very funny. They have a lot of new material. Curran's character impersonations are excellent and his voice good. They duplicated their former success, as nearly every line is a scream of laughter. LeROY & CLAYTON: YHR-2, Full stage, 29 mins. Man and woman in a comedy sketch entitled "Hogan of the Hansom". Mistaken identity idea. The act was presented here about two years ago. From the way it was received, they thought it was a new farce, as every line is a laugh, although they were on late they held them to the finish. LEW SULLY: YHR-2: Drop in one. 17 mins. In monologue. This man had a hard place on the bill; with the show very late he managed to hold them and get a number of laughs. He has a lot of new material with several new parodies.
