185 NEW YORK CRITICISM: OCTOBER 17th, 1904: THE GREAT JANSEN: AR-3: Two men and a woman, in 16 minutes of magic, card and ball manipulating, closing with an illusion. The act is nicely dressed. They work rather awkward, although a good act in the early section. Full stage, close in one. Three shows. CARLO'S DOGS: NH-3: This man is a clever equilibrist, and works alone the best part of the act. One of the dogs does some excellent work while the man balances. The other two do small tricks. The act is nicely dressed and will make good in an early place on any bill. 3 shows. PIERCE & MAIZEE: GGR-3: Man and woman in a very pretty singing act. They both have good voices, The woman makes several changes of wardrobe, showing some very pretty gowns. It is an excellent small act. Drop in 1, 13 mins. 3 shows. ELDORA & NORINE: GRR-3: This man is an exceptionally clever juggler. He carries a young man as assistant, impersonating a woman, dressed in oriental costume. I do not think this man will ever rise above the three-a-day section. His wardrobe and paraphernalia remains the same as seen for the past 3 years, although it is a useful act. Full stage, close in one. 23 mins. FADETTES: HRR-2: This excellent musical organization went as strong as last week. The selections are excellent, every number being encored. Full stage, 39 Mins. 2 shows. ST. JOHN & LaFEVRE: NH-3: Young man and woman, in a singing and dancing act with a few imitations. They are both excellent dancers. The woman has greatly improved, her impersonations are very clever. Drop in 1, 18 Mins. 3 shs. MONS. CHASSINO: GHR-2: This is Chassino's first appearance in New York, being billed very strong, naturally received a reception. He is a shadowgraphist of the highest rank and the only real artist in this line we have ever played. Every shadow was a scream. He made a tremendous hit. Full stage, 13 mins. 2 shows. GOLDEN GATE QUINTETTE: GSR-3: Four men and one woman, in a singing, talking and dancing act. They all have good voices, the act is nicely dressed and contains some good comedy. 20 mins. Open in 2, close in 1, 2 shows. STALEY & BIRBECK:-SYH-2: Man and woman in a musical and singing transformation specialty. This act has not been seen here for years and their transformation scene created a sensation. It is an excellent act, and one of the hits of the programme. Full stage, 10 mins. 2 shs. GUS. WILLIAMS: GNH-2: This man held his audience to-day as he always does, with an entire new act. His material is all new. His is generally a big favorite here and he went strong. Drop in 1, 18 minutes, 2 shows. FRED. BOND & CO: MRR-2: Frederick Bond with two men and a woman, presenting "My Awful Dad". The company is entirely new. The act has been re-written and a young man substituted in a character that was formerly played by a woman. The change improves the act. The show at this time was 40 minutes late and he held them to the finish. Full stage, 24 mins. 2 shows.
