(M. J. Keating) Boston Show, Week of Oct. 12, 1903 Stereopticon, 3 shows, 10 min. in 1--Usual interesting selections of home and foreign views. Killeen and Murphy, 3 shows, 15 min. open in 1, go to 2 and close in 1--Act somewhat improved since the last time they were here, and would stand for a little better place in the 3-show-section Couture and Gillett, 3 shows, 9 min. full stage--Very good acrobatic act, the tumbling by the man working straight being exceptional. The comedy of Gillett is very "bum", and I think they would do better by eliminating it altogether. Nessen and Nessen, 3 shows, 12 min. open in 3, close in 1- Very good club juggling act, considered from a 3-a-day standpoint. La Belle Dazie, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--Best toe dancing specialty I have ever seen, and if our audiences were appreciative of such work it could easily be made a feature of the show. Unfortunately for her, that sort of dancing never made good here; they do not seem capable of appreciating it. She has all the daintiness and chic of a French artiste. Musical Bentley, 3 shows, 12 min. in 1--This young man plays on bells, xylophone, etc., and is an excellent performer. His operatic selections were all encored, good 3-a-day turn. Nirvana, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage--This is practically a living picture exhibition, with the posing done by the young woman and horse, the animal having the much better conception of the work. The subjects have not been selected with good judgment, as the average auditor is unacquainted with the stories and does not understand the point of those that original. The backings, curtains, fram and other surroundings are miserable and necessarily detract from the merits of the act. It is the intention to partially correct this during the engagement in this house, and I look for it to make a hit. Senecal, 3 shows, 7 min. in 1--Very good foot juggler, who seemed to give perfect satisfaction in the place on the bill. Jessie Couthoui, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1--Did the same old specialties she has used before, but with decidedly less success than formerly. Her voice is not susceptible to the lights and shades of former days and she is going backward fast. Her recitation at the finish was too long and tiresome, not being nearly so strong as that used during her last engagement. I will have her change it during the balance of the week. do not think we want her again for some time to come.
