40 Bijou Theatre Criticism, #2. October 19, 1903 IRVING JONES: Street in one, 19 minutes. Jones played the same act that he has previously done on the circuit. With the good show that preceded him, he got the audience at the start in excellent humor, and for the entire nineteen minutes that he occupied the stage he was received with screams of laughter and general applause. He was the hit of the show. 2 shows. MADAME HERRMANN: Full stage, fancy exterior; 26 minutes. this act was a little bit slow this-afternoon, the lights seeming not to be worked properly, and was received in silence. The illusion, "The Sleeping Beauty in Mid Air", toward the close awakened the audience and brought forth applause, then she closed to good and general applause. Think she will be a card for us this week. BIOGRAPH: A fairly good collection of views this week, having more of comedy than last week's show, but was interrupted by a break in the machine on one of the last pictures. 18 minutes. COMMENT: As a whole, the show is by far the best we have had since returning to vaudeville, being strong in nearly every department, especially comedy, which should presage business for us, and I look for a big improvement. Francis Gerard did not arrive from Detroit in time for this afternoon's show, but it is expected he will turn up at seven o'clock, and a criticism of his act will be appended. E.P. LYONS
