47 Keith's Bijou Criticism -- October 26th, 1903. SEYMOUR & DUPRE: C.D.F. 4; 15 minutes. Man working as chinaman, woman straight. Seymour's clever jumping gained many laughs at the start, but the act sags badly towards the close. They went off to only fair applause I think they will go better later in the week, as Seymour's wonderful and graceful jumping and Miss Dupre's graceful dancing should earn more applause then they received to-day. 2 shows. BROOKS BROTHERS: Street in one; 19 minutes; one man straight, the other blackface. Talking, singing, and dancing act with many bright lines, which gained them much applause and general laughter. They held down this place on the bill in very good shape. 3 shows. JOHN & EMMA RAY: C.D.F. 4; 21 minutes. The audience had evidently been waiting for this act, and they were both accorded a grand reception on entering. This first words uttered by Ray were greeted with a scream of laughter, and his gorilla like antics and peculiar Irish speech brought forth general laughter throughout the whole of the act. It might be said to have done all we expected of it, although the applause at the finish was not so hearty and general as we had looked for. BIOGRAPH: 20 minutes. On film of value, "Chums". The rest is a tacky collection of views that show a falling off in the standard for some time back. COMMENT: As compared with last week's show, this one might be styled as bad; it is certainly bad comparatively, though up to the average of those provided the first couple of weeks. The Rays will undoubtedly prove drawing cards. We lost nine minutes in time by having them placed last, which we will gain this evening by rearranging the show. They do an encore of eight or nine minutes length, and placing them earlier on the bill will afford them the opportunity to earn a recall. On the strength of their name we can probably look for good business, although the surrounding show is one not calculated to do us much good. E.P. Lyons.
