48 NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF OCTOBER 26th. STEREOPTICON.--Usual selection of views. 6 min. in one. AH.- 3-THE LA TELLS.--Two men in an acrobatic act, the work being largely dependent upon strength and muscle, and they certainly do about as clever a small act as I have seen in many a day. In fact, if they had come from Europe they could easily have received double the money they are getting, and yet have been considered a cheap act. It is a very valuable turn for a 3-show-a-day turn. 9 min., full stage. KR -3-CROLUIS & ST. ALVA.--A man and a woman in a comedy singing and dancing sketch. I agree with the rest of the circuit that the woman is the better half of the act, but the turn will never be anything but a filler under any circumstance. 19 min., entirely in one in this house. GRR -3-BATES MUSICAL TRIO.-- This is a fairly good instrumental and vocal act by a man, a woman, and a little girl. There is nothing particularly startling about it, but it is clean and inoffensive. 18 min., full stage; close in one if necessary. MH -3-MAX RITTER.--A young fellow singing "coon" songs and closing with "buck" dancing. He is quite good too. He reminds me somewhat of Eddie Mack, although he is hardly as strong as he is. It is a good 3-show-a-day turn, however. 8 minutes in one. GRR.--HOWARD & HARRIS.--This is a new act by a man and a woman, the woman making up straight, and the man as "Happy Hooligan." For this house, at least, it is an exceptionally clever act from a 3-show-a-day standpoint. The man is really runny, and, aside from the dialogue, he does some eccentric dancing that is great. The woman is a clean-looking body, dressing nicely, and does, in addition to her talking and singing, dancing and a little contortion, both of which are good. I have an idea that they will go strong all over the circuit. 23 minutes, full stage; close with about 8 minutes in one. GRR -2-TRELOAR, assisted by Edna Tempest, in feats of strength and representations of statuary. It is a very pleasing act, indeed. The man's muscular development is nearly, if not quite, equal to that of Sandow. In addition to that, he has less affectation and appeals to the audience more as a manly man. I think it is a mighty clever act. 17 minutes, full stage. YHR -2 -COLE & JOHNSON--As always, they went very strong, indeed. They sang several new songs and introduced a couple of old favorites at the finish. 20 minutes, full stage. KR - 3 -THE ROONEY SISTERS.--These girls are the last of the Rooney Family to go upon the stage. Like all of the tribe, they can sing but very little, but there is no question but that they are all good dancers. I had to give a little too strong a place on the bill this afternoon in order to break a set, but they made good all right. One of them plays an upright piano in one portion of the act for the other to dance. They worked entirely in one for me. 12 min. SRR - 2-HENRY LEE.--It is hardly necessary to say that Mr. Lee is the greatest artist in his line in this country. He has made some improvements in his act, and has over-come the tedium of long waits by making-up in full view of the audience. The stage is hung entirely in red. He comes on and makes his announcement, and then the curtains are pulled from the center in the rear showing a room entirely in green, in which he makes-up assisted by three attendants dressed in white. This makes the act something of a novelty, avoiding any waits, and, I think, adds materially to the effect of his work. He went very strong this afternoon, making an especially big hit with his impersonation of Grant, Lee, Croker, and Mark Twain. 23 minutes, full stage.
