89 Bob Cole and Rosamond Johnson, 2 shows, 20 min. open full stage, close in 1--Had an excellent reception and seemingly went as strong as at any time since their engagement opened. Introduced several new songs. Sloan and Wallace, 2 shows, 22 min. open full stage, close in 1--First time here for this couple, who were given too difficult a place in the bill for them to negotiate. Mr. Sloane makes up like Louis Mann, while Miss Wallace, who is a handsome woman, dresses with excellent taste. The sketch in which they appear, "The Plumber", is not nearly so good as many others that could be named in vaudeville, and Mr. Sloane does not show up so strongly in vaudeville as he did in musical comedies. Miss Wallace never had a voice that reached beyond the chorus and her solo in this sketch is a frost They will be given an easier place in the bill this evening, and for the balance of the week, but from the standpoint of "making good" their salaries, they hardly come up to expectations. Hoosier Zouaves, 2 shows, 11 min. full stage--16 young men in an exhibition of fancy drilling and wall scaling. While they work quicker than the Streator's Zouaves, whom we played a few years ago, their manoeuvres are not so catchy for stage purposes. The act was punctuated by applause all the way through, and which increased during the wall scaling. There was no great hurrah over it, however, such as has been reported from the other houses. Perhaps we are better judges of such things, may be more blase. Biograph, 3 shows, 20 min. in 1--Excellent collection of pictures, which were well received. Ed and Nettie Masse, 3 shows, 15 min. full stage--Jugglers of small articles, both being quite skilful. The act is a nice, clean one, the performers neatly dressed and doing good work. The plate catching at the finish carried them off strongly. In this feature of their act, for precision in catching plates, Nettie Masse has Olive beaten a mile. Comments: While on paper the show seemed even stronger than that of last week, as an actual fact it does not pan out so well; the principal reason the refor being a lack of suitable acts in one, which was caused by the dearth of suitable material when the show was booked. With a little rearrangement it will run more smoothly than it did this afternoon and I feel it will prove satisfactory.
