Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of December 7, '03. The entire show may be rated as good but not strong, at the same time [???] may not be fair to the show as a whole as everything went wrong to-[???]. The Shaws in some mistake went to New York, Browning's trunk didn't arrive in time for the first show, Julian Rose came in late and had no theatre rehearsal and my anxiety to make up for lack of acts, I did too much stretching and the show ran very late in the afternoon show it is really not a fair test of what we have. Stereoptican. As usual. Spaulding. Tramp acrobatic. this mans work is principally hand stands and hand jumping and walking. Does some very clever tricks and the act from a three a day standpoint may be rated as fairly good. 11 min. open full stage, close in one, 3 shows. The Brownings. In view of their trunk not arriving they did a little talking act in their street clothes to make up some of the time which was not very good. I will report on them tomorrow. John Geiger. Trick violinist. this act is all right from a three a day standpoint as he works in one, but our audience would rather have a nice straight violin-playing than the trick stuff. 12 min. in one, 3 shows. Ed & Nettie Masse. Comedy juggling act. The man is quite a comedian in a small way and has a number of very funny tricks. The act, considering they do three shows a day, is a very good one. 15 min. open in three, very short close in 1. Mr. & Mrs. Larry Shaw. Didn't arrive in time for the first two shows. Expect them for the night show, will report tomorrow. Paul Stephens. One legged Equilibrist. As this act is well known on the circuit, description is unnecessary. He went very well. 9 min. full stage, 2 shows; although I was led to believe that he did three; booking-reports all said so. Julian Rose. Hebrew impersonator. This man went a little better this time than he has on previous occasions but he by no means makes good, for his money in this House. 16 min. in one, 2 shows. Joe Maxwell & Co. In their same old fireman's act which has been changed slightly by the introduction of some new songs which went quite well with the audience. 2 min. open in 3 close in one, 2 shows. Everhart. Hoop Roller. By all odds appears above everything in his class, in fact there is nothing else in his class. Although his act is very short cannot find any fault in that regard, as he is doing something every moment that he is on the stage, and everything that he does, goes strongly. 8 min. full stage, 2 shows Lowe-Hughes Duo. Music and singing. The man's xylophone playing is very good but the woman's vocal work simply goes by and that is all. The act may be rated as good but no more than that. 14 min. in one, 2 shows. Will H. Sloane & Yolande Wallace. In "The Plumber". Sloan's dutchman is very funny but I think he could have got a better companion than Miss Wallace. Act made a hit but it was entirely due to the man's work. 19 min. in three, 2 shows. Josephine Gassman & Pickaninnies. Much to my surprise this act was one of the big hits of the show, and I will stand by the Philadelphia report in its entirety. 11 min. in one, 2 shows.
