98 CRITICISM OF SHOW. KEITH'S NEW THEATRE,PHILA. DEC.7TH [ILLEGIBLE] [illegible]-10 mins.-Gar. in 2-Man,contortionist;works very slowly, and does not [seem?] to do anything out of the ordinary;all right as an opener; [lacking?] [?], life and animation. Ford Sisters-12 mins.-Gar. in 2-Singing and wooden shoe dancing;attractively gowned;good dancers and fair singers;very good three-a-day act. Coulter & Starr-13 mins. in one-Two men, regular blackface singing and dancing act. A little crossfire talk that is not particularly bright. Got by with a little appluase,by courtesy. Cute story about brother's gold in "going to the devil." Daly & Devere-15 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman. Man makes up as stout Irish servant girl. His makeup and talk received some laughs. The sketch is entitled, "Bridget's Word Goes." It may be said to be good from a three-a-day standpoint. Three Barretts-16 mins-Landscape in 4-Three men,two of them working as rubes,in a juggling act. Comedy is bad;juggling, only fair. Their work with the straw hats could be made into a great act by a clever man. As much could be gotten out of them as Everhart gets out of the hoops. The act got by with a little applause. Louis Granat-11 mins. in one-whistles with the aid of his fingers;always gets a hand. The first real applause of the show. Lavender & Tomson-18 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Man and woman, in a bright sketch entitled "A Touchdown." Very bright dialogue, and received the legitimate laughs it deserved. Second time h3ere. Closed strongly, with real applause. Bim,Bom,Brr-15 mins.-Gar. in 3-close in one-Three people, in a novelty musical act, every number of which received some applause. It was new to our audience, and they seemed to like it. Davis & Macauley-20 mins.-2 Door Arch in 4-Man and woman,in a comedy sketch, entitled "The Unexpected." Second time here. The audience seemed to fully a preciate the artistic presentation of the comedy, and the act pleaed greatly throughout. Miriam Ainsworth-12 mins. in one-Character changes. Her quick changed were a novelty for our audience. Her appearance was against her,and she received scant applause, just a ripple now and then, but not enough for much encouragement. No one could quite understand her. Maybe she was not at her best. She may go better to-night,but it is doubtful. Staley & Birbeck-13 mins.-Spec. Set-Man and woman,in the greatest transformation scene we have ever put on here. The audience was thoroughly surprised, interested, and pleased. The act opened with the music in the blacksmith shop and makes quick shift of ten seconds to the parlor scene. The act will be talked about and will draw money. T. Nelson Downs-18 mins. in one-King of the coin and card manipulators. Too well known for criticism. He held the attention of the audience throughout, and his cleverness was appreciated. Stinson & Merton-22 mins.-C.D.F. in 3-close in one-In their same crazy act that always gets the laughs. They did not arrive until one a'clock and could not rehearse with the orchestra. However, they got by without the rehearsal. Laughter throughout.
