136 Report on Show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of January 4, 1904. (Charles Lovenberg) The show this week is not as good as we have been having of late. It lacks strength, novelty and good comedy. Stereopticon. As usual. Ouda. Man on trapeze. This man does some fairly good tricks but his appearance is not at all neat and he has a bad make-up, still however he is all right for an opening act. 8 min. full stage, 3 shows. Yackley & Bunnell. Musical comedy. I can't understand how these men got by. Aside from the playing on the bottles by the comedian I could see nothing in their act whatever. 17 min. open in two, close in one, 3 shows. Leon & Adeline. Man and woman juggling act which is fairly good from a three a day standpoint. They look neat and do their work cleanly. Were they first or second on the bill they would be all right but hardly strong enough for 4th place which I was obliged to give them as they are better than the preceeding acts. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Dorothy Kenton. This was the first act of any real merit we got. She plays very nicely on the Banjo, classic music, while not cheap appealed to the audience generally. She is rather good looking and young and altogether the act may be classed as a good three a day turn. 12 min. in one, 3 shows. The Gleesons. Same dancing act they have been giving us and which went very well indeed. 12 min. open in 2 close in one, 2 shows. Quaker City Quartette. These people are also repeating their act and with the exception of one song there is no change. While I like them personally very well, they didn't go strong with the audience at all, probably because they have seen them too much in the same act. 23 min. open in three, close in one, 2 shows. James F. Kelly & Dorothy Kent. These people are also giving us practically the same act we have had before but they have introduced a great many new gags and some new songs. This was the first act that made any real impression upon the audience of the afternoon show and must be classed as good. 18 min. open in 3, close in 1, 2 shows. Marion Lamont. (Jeanette Lovell) This lady was rather a disappointment to me and decidedly so to the audience. She has good execution but there is not much purity to her tones and her selections were very poorly chosen and she has the manner of an amateur. I was very sorry to be obliged to exchange places with her and Dorothy Kent but it was unavoidable. 10 min. in one, 2 shows. Frederick Bond & Company. Mr. Bond is certainly a clever comedian. He has more unction than any man I have seen in some time. The man that plays with him is acceptable but the women are rank especially the one that plays the Irish Character part which would, in the hands of a capable woman, be made to stand out very strongly, however the act made good with the audience although it is not a scream, by any means. 23 min. in three, 2 shows. Crane Brothers. Mudtown Minstrels. Same act they have given us heretofore and which held its own remarkably today being the hit of the show. 22 min. in one, 2 shows. Ryder's Monkeys. Another disappointment. I never saw a Monkey act get so few laughs as this one. The stuff that they did was very ordinary aside from a couple of tricks on a horizontal bar which were really quite clever. It is
