154 CRITICISM KEITH'S BIJOU, JANUARY 18TH, 1904. STEREOPTICON. Usual collections of slides. 10 minutes. ROYCE BROTHERS. Garden in 3. 11 minutes. Two local young men in bag punching specialties, gaining fair applause throughout their entire act and also at the close. A neat appearing and clever performing pair. Good for an early position on any part of the circuit. 3 shows. FRALEY CHILDREN. Drop in one. 11 minutes. Local boy and girl not more than 12 or 14 years of age. The pair were somewhat nervous during the first show and did not do themselves the justice we expected of them and know they can do. The dancing of the pair earned them stronger applause at the finish and in this position the act will be fully satisfactory. 3 shows. JOHN J. DESMOND. Garden in 4. 8 minutes. Opening with muscular posing which earned him a slight hand from which he progressed to bag punching feats. Unfortunately for him he followed the Royce Brothers to closely and his feats did not ellicit any amount of applause. In this position he is wrongly placed and we have exchanged him for Mitchell from the new house. 3 shows. ORCHESTRA. Usual good selections. 5 minutes. LA TROUPE FANTASTIQUE. Own set in 3. 15 minutes. This act has played the Circuit and it is unnecessary to criticise. Since is last appearance here it must be said that the act has not improved to any extent. While the insertion of some acrobatic work by the male member has added some variety the act gained little or no applause throughout and coming as it did after the Desmond act, failed to ellicit any at its close. 2 shows. RAY COX. Drapery in one. 12 minutes. After the couple of acts preceeding her appearance the first song was not well received but the talk following it earned her applause and laughter and her closing song carried her off to a very good hand and really placed the show on its feet at this time. 3 shows. SMITH & FULLER. C. D. F. 23 minutes. 5 minutes in one. The musical work was not very well received and the interest of the audience was not very great until Miss Fuller played the harp aided by her singing clever and late songs with a voice that had the ability to interest and which was very pleasing to her Auditors and brought from them considerable applause. The balance of the act went exceedingly well and enabled them to close good and strong. 2 shows. JOHN CRAIG & COMPANY, in their sketch "The Doctor". Plain chamber 24 minutes. The act of which much was expected but which failed miserably to reach the mark set for them. Craig in appearance and acting was strong but for an unknown reason did not appear to know his own lines, and this greatly detracted from the value of his performance. For his support little can be said that is good. Mary Young, while of good appearance lacks a good voice and apparently training. She should not be permit- that it is not in the same place with the one put on by us last week. In order to remedy and improve it the bill will be considerable changed for to-nights performance and one of the bag punching acts "Desmond" went to the new house in exchange for Mitchell the ventriloquist. The proper adjustment of the show will probably enable us to play business as satisfactory as the week proceeding. MITCHELL. Ventriloquist. Garden 4. 17 minutes. A man who displays great ventriloqual ability and his line of talk enables him to make his work interesting. While we secured him only in time for our supper show his presentation gained him applause from the few auditors here at that time. His work will fill in nicely by closing in one. He has an act which may be valuable to us this week. E.P. LYONS. Whole show improved by readjustment & went better throughout P.F.N.
