161 NEW YORK SHOW, WEEK OF JANUARY 25, 1904. KR--3--KENNEDY & JAMES.--A man and a woman in a little singing, dancing, and comedy act. The act is not especially strong, but does all right for an opener. 15 minutes, open full stage and close in one. HR--3--WILBUR AMOS.--Comedy juggler. This young fellow has quite a good idea of comedy and is rather a clever juggler in his way. It is a question whether he will ever get out of the three-show class, but judged from that standpoint he does a pretty valuable act. The best part of it is the finish where he allows people in the audience to throw apples onto the stage while he attempts to catch them on the prongs of a fork held in his mouth. This is always sure to create a laugh. 20 min., open in full stage and close in one. NH--3--JOHN J. DESMOND.--Athlete and bag puncher. He opens with a dozen poses in a cabinet tending to show his muscular development; then lifts two or three heavy weights and finishes with bag punching in a small novel way. His work is amateurish to a degree, and while the bag punching section of it is cleverly executed there is an absolute lack of finish. In fact, it was so noticeable that the audience this afternoon was rather inclined to "guy" him a little. He will probably, however, be able to get there on an early portion of the bill. 9 minutes, full stage. AR--3--CLIFFORD & HARVEY.--A couple of young girls in a singing and dancing act. The singing is pretty bad, and I cut out their second song. Their dancing is really good and received quite an amount of applause from the audience. With first the opening song and then going into their buck dancing with wooden shoes I think they will get through all right, for they dress all right and are good, clean-looking girls. 11 min. in one. ER --3--BARR & EVANS.--In their familiar comedy sketch in which the woman makes up with the tremendous hoop skirts, making her look so large that the audience can hardly help laughing and the man does a "rube" which is fairly acceptable. This afternoon I think it went stronger than I ever saw it go in the house; and considering the fact that they do three shows daily it can easily be classed as a good turn. 19 minutes. Full stage; could close in one if necessary. GRYH--2--THE MISSES DELMORE.--Two rather attractive women who do an act that is somewhat different from other sister turns. One of them appears first and sings a soldier song. While she is changing, the other one does a mandolin solo; the other one comes back and does a Japanese song which is quite clever; then we have a violin solo from the second one which is not at all bad, and then together they do a violin and mandolin duet to the accompaniment of which one of them sings. Taken all in all, it is really a pleasing act and was received this afternoon with the most decided evidence of approval. 16 minutes in one. YRR--2--WARD & CURRAN.-- In a comedy sketch entitled "The Terrible Judge," This old team seems to have taken a new lease of life for I don't remember that they have ever gone better in this house than they did this afternoon. There is no question but that Ward is a very funny man, and while it seems to me that Curran's voice is going rapidly, he still has a way of handling it that catches the female portion of the audience and they certainly made a hit this afternoon. [50?] minutes, open full stage and close in one. YRR--2--JOHN FORD & MAYME GEHRUE.--It is hardly necessary to say that Ford is the greatest male dancer in the profession, and the Gehrue girl makes an admirable foil to his work. together they do a sort of sketch which in this house, at least, really evidence a good idea of comedy, but they got quite a lot of laughs and while it cannot be called a comedy sketch, it certainly falls far fro, being unacceptable and considering the fact that it lengthened out the usual short time of a dancing act I consider it well worth the money that we are paying. They made a tremendous hit this afternoon and can hardly fail to duplicate it all over the circuit. 20 minutes open full stage and close in one
