164 CRITICISM, BIJOU. Jan. 25, 1904. #2. JULIUS TANNEN. Drop in one. 12 minutes. Billed as the celebrated mimic. Tannen of clever appearance impersonated such men as De Wolf Hopper, Nat C. Goodwin and Henry Lee, portraying each one remarkably true to life. Following Walter Daniels so closely reduced the amount of applause no doubt, but in any one of the houses patronized by people familiar with the characterizations of the different men he mimics, it is almost unnecessary to say he would go very, very strong. Closed to fair applause. 2 shows. CUSHMAN, HOLCOMB & CURTIS. 24 minutes. 5 in one at close. Plain chamber in 3. Their familiar act "A Winter Session" which did not seem to raise the people to the point of applause, their familiarity with the act being no doubt the reason for this. Will move them up the bill tonight, changing their place with that of Kelly & Kent. 2 shows. AVOLOS. Palace in 4. 6 minutes. Their Perpendicular Bar Act which has been over the Circuit and which did not go as strongly here as it did in nearly all the other houses. The comedian has evidently improved of late but the act seems too short to be a good applause winner. 2 shows. BIOGRAPH. 20 minutes. Good collection of views headed by "The Looting of the Overland Mail" picture, which while being a good picture did not have the strength nor the ability to bring forth the applause from the audience as did the picture last week of the "Escaped Lunatic" which was a considerable addition to the comedy section of our show. DE GREES. In Handkerchief and Hat Spinning". Garden in 4 16 minutes. Reporting too late to open our show we held them until after the Biograph and presenting a rather neat act in this line they filled in their time acceptably and earned a fair share of applause. 3 shows Comment. Compared with last weeks show the bill this week can be said immediately to be better and while hardly up to some of the best bills presented here
