Report on show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I. [Rhode Island], Week of Feb. [February] 1st, 1904. (Charles Lovenberg) A most satisfactory and entertaining bill containing a good supply of new features. Haidaburas Family. Russian dancers. I don't think much of this act myself but it went pretty well with the audience today and is no doubt all right to open the show. 9 min. full stage, 3 shows. Aerial Smiths. An accident happened to their apparatus this afternoon and they were unable to give their first performance. A very tame and ordinary act. 9 min. full stage, 2 shows. Gordon Eldred. Comedian and mimic who sings a couple of topical songs and some funny stories and imitations. Is all right also in an early portion of the bill and from a three a day standpoint may be classed as fairly good. 14 min. in one, 3 shows. Reno & Smith. Acrobatic comedians and barrel jumping. The acrobatic work of this man is very acceptable, their comedy however is forced and grows tiresome and I am having them omit some of it and hope to improve the act thereby. As a three a day act should be classed as good. 14 min. full stage, 2 shows. Gregsons. Man and woman in a neat little singing and dancing act. The woman is very pretty and they dress neatly and while they are not in any sense, great, the act is pleasing. 15 min. in one, 3 shows. Fitzgibbon-McCoy Trio. This act made an unqualified hit, on the strength of a lot of crazy comedy that they do which kept the audience screaming with laughter almost the entire time they were on the stage. Very strong. 20 min. open in three, close in one, two shows. Mackwoods. Pantomimists and comedy acrobats. Because of its novelty this is a very acceptable act. They carry their own scenery and a lot of break-away furniture and they finish with quite a Hurrah. While they did not make a great hit, it is something out of the ordinary and new, and for that reason, desirable. 7 min. in three, 2 shows. Murphy & Francis. Colored singing and dancing comedians. This is the "Murphy" of formerly "Murphy & Slater" who has now a woman working with him and I believe the act is an improvement over the old act. The man is certainly a clever and unctuous comedian and a very funny eccentric dancer. They went very strongly indeed. 15 min. in one, 3 shows. E. Rousby's Electrical Review. This is one of the prettiest features I think we have had in this House. While there was not any tremendous outburst of applause at the finish of the act, there was a great deal of it during the performance and many comments of approval were heard. I am sure that it will draw us money. 15 min. full stage, 2 shows. Mary Desmond. Irish vocalist. I was very agreeably surprised with this set as she does not sing badly at all and certainly makes a most attractive appearance and has the good sense to sing the class of music that while not cheap does not go over the heads of the audience. Good singing act. 12 min. in one, 2 shows. Waterbury Brothers & Tenny. In their familiar musical comedy act which went very well. 22 min. open in 3, close in one, 2 shows.
