181 [CRITICISM?] OF SHOW. [KEITH'S?][illegible] THEATRE, PHILA. FEB. 8TH THE LUCADOS-11 Mins.-Gar. in 3-Man and woman. Man lifts heavy weights, balancing them, and has a phenomenal chest expansion. Woman simply acts as assistant. Good sight act. SHANNON & BROWN-12 mins. in one-Two men,German [comedians?], imitate Carson & Willard,,even to the close with burlesque opera. Just a fair three-a-day act. RENO & SMITH-18 mins.-Gar. in 3-Two boys, one working straight, one grotesque. Comedy acrobatic act. Comedy is about the worst we ever had in this house. The acrobatic work consists of two or three flip-flaps. Our audience couldn't see the set at all. PRYOR BROTHERS-15 mins. in one-Two men, in a neat singing, dancing and musical act. Fine appearance, clean cut, fair singers, fair dancers and good musicians. Good three-a-day act. ASCOTT & [EIDIE?]-10 mins.-Landsc. in 4-Man and woman. Woman dances. Man makes up as clown and does acrobatic comedy. Man's comedy is not above par. whole act is only fair. Woman is not a great addition to the act. This act and that of Reno & Smith we will not care to play again. LE TROUPE FANTASTIQUE-12 mins.-Special-Two women and a man. Man is an acrobat. Women do dancing. Scene is special mountain and cave from "Faust." Man dressed as Mephisto and women as vampires. After dancing and acrobatic work, women change to fancy costumes and do clog dancing. Pleasing little act,and better than anything that preceded it. RAY COX-12 mins. in one-Woman vocalist;makes a stunning appearance. After the first verse of her first song, she thanked the audience for the applause she didn't get. Inclined to be a bit "fresh." Closed fairly strong and may go better to-night. She has a crazy sort of monologue that requires an unusual amount of cleverness to land safely--and she is more "fresh" than clever. CHARLES DICKSON & CO.-25 mins.-Plain in 3-In"APressing Matter." The little comedy sketch went much better than we expected. No real comedy of any kind preceded it,and the audience was ripe for a laugh--and would have laughed at any thing. Went very well, indeed. [? FRANK] BELL-14 mins. in one-Rube monologue;very good;has a great deal of good stuff, and knows how to deliver it;good two-a-day act. MARY NORMAN-[13?] mins.-C.D.F. in 3-Presenting types of women: First-the Boston girl;the San Francisco girl;the New York girl;the Chicago girl. All portrayed in the cleverest way imaginable. The woman is an artiste and will make a big hit anywhere. She received three curtains calls, and spontaneous applause throughout the act. NEWSBOYS QUARTETTE-12 mins. in one-Four young men;good vocalists;have some fair comedy in the act;good three-a-day act.
