Report on Show, Keith's Theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of Feby. 15, '04. (Charles Lovenberg) A very strong bill, thoroughly appreciated by a big audience. Clifford & Harvey. Two girls in songs and dances which can only be classed as fair from even a three a day standpoint. Their methods are rather coarse, singing poor, and dancing fair. They manage to get by opening the show and that is about all. 10 min. in one, 2 shows. Lucados. Balancing and a little juggling and chest expanding. The man does the greater part of the work the woman assisting. The act seemed to please and may be called a very fair three a day act. 10 min. full stage. Mooney & Holbein. Man and woman, the woman plays indifferently on several instruments and their singing and comedy is only fair. The man however does some very good eccentric dancing and they manage to leave the stage to strong applause. The act should be rated as very good from a three a day standpoint. 18 min. open in 2, short close in 1. 3 shows. Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Darrow. Sand and smoke pictures and shadowgraphs. This is a very pleasing three a day turn in fact goes as well as many two a day acts that we get. It is especially good for the children and entertaining to the grown folks as well. 15 min. full stage, 3 shows. Lamonts. Two men and a woman in an acrobatic act. The act has greatly improved since they were here before, the addition of another man, who is a very good tumbler, adding much to the brightness of the turn. Incidentally they have also introduced a little boy about four years old, who while he does not do much, manages to get a lot of laughs. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Could do a very short close in one. Newsboys' Quartette. These rough quartettes cannot be relied upon for much in this House. The coarse atmosphere which prevades the act is not appreciated by our audiences. Their comedy is decidedly forced, but in this case the singing is better than usual. If I didn't need the time in one so badly and could place them earlier on the bill, they would be all right but they are hardly suited to the place I am obliged to give them; however it should be rated as a fairly good three a day act. 15 min. in 1 Hodge, Hall & Co. The report by Mr. Hodgdon last week on this act will stand for Providence, and only add that they were probably the laughing hit of the show. 22 min. in 3, 2 shows. Otto Brothers. The report of Boston and New York on this act applies to this City also. 15 min. in one, 3 shows. Rooney & Francis. Eccentric acrobatic dancing act. Well there is no doubt as to the ability of these two people but I cannot see them at the salary they are getting. They got their greatest applause on their entrance which shows that they are drawing us some money on the strength of their Rogers Brother'S reputation, but I don't believe it would be advisable to play them again at that salary. They do not make good for it. 10 min. open full stage, about 1-1/2 in one, 2 shows. Herbert Lloyd. Tramp comedian and juggler although his juggling does not apply for a great deal. He made one of the laughing hits of the show and in all the good things that have been said about him in the other Houses, I fully coincide with. 15 min. open full stage, very short close in one, 2 shows.
