198 Newsboy's quartet, 3 shows, 15 min. in 1--The singing by these young fellows is probably above the average found in such acts, but their comedy, as usual can hardly be taken seriously, although it pleased the holiday gathering. Frank Gardner and Lottie Vincent, 2 shows, 23 min. full stage--First time here for this act, which is one of the best in its particular line that we have ever played. The funny situations all through is decidedly novel, and Gardner's eccentric dancing and acrobatic tumbling is great. The double dancing at the finish, in which they either jumped or fell over every object on the stage, and then disappeared through a window constitutes one of the best finishes I have ever seen, and the audience wanted them to do it all over again. Tom Karl, 2 shows, 12 min. in 1--Tenor vocalist, formerly of the Bostonians. Received a little applause when he made his appearance. All his numbers were encored. This was rather remarkable, as holiday amusement-seekers do not, as a rule, take to this class of entertainment. With our regular audiences he will score a hit. He is in wonderfully good voice. Herbert Lloyd, 2 shows, 14 min. open full stage, close in 1--After seeing Gardner, I was a little afraid that it would put a "crimp" in this man's act, but did not, and he can be credited with a solid hit. He is no great juggler, but his comedy work is unique and makes amends for his lack of skill. Act improved since last here. The Lamonts, 2 shows, 10 min. full stage--Acrobatic and tumbling specialties, by two young men, and a young woman, all dressed in evening costume. Did not go so well as I expected, as their work does not stand comparison with that of some of the other teams seen here of late. May move them further up the bill. Nora Bayes, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--First time here for this vocalicomedienne. She is attractive looking and sings fairly well but better than all else has unlimited nerve, probably imbibed from Al Fields, as it is the same character. She got the crowd as no similar singer has done here of late and went off the stage with the stamp of approval of the people, who furnish the wherewithal to keep the show going, fixed upon her. Comment:- Without exception, in my memory, the show is the best we have ever given on a holiday, and with such well pleased crowds going forth to advertise it, business during the balance of the week should prove a holiday-week record breaker, even if it is the Lenton season.
