200 CRITICISM, KEITH'S BIJOU, FEBRUARY 22ND. 1904. STEREOPTICON. Collection of views procured locally as those shipped from Boston did not arrive until this P. M. Usual collection. 12 minutes. THE NOHRENS. Garden in 4 11 minutes. Man and woman in a trapeze act of the ordinary kind, perhaps a little better than ordinary. Playing to a good house they were very well received and may be classed as a very satisfactory opening act. 3 shows. Can stand better position PREMIER COMEDY QUARTETTE. C. D. F. 21 minutes, 6 minutes in one. A comedy sketch by four men, three in eccentric makeup, and here on trial to-day. It was evident that there was little or no preparation for the class of stuff they were to offer and as it was put on some-what roughly it did not make much of an impression. One of the men, Marshall, possesses considerable ability as a comedian, but the sketch really fails by the bad work of the first tenor. Gets by well in this position but would not stand better one. 3 shows. OWLEY & RANDALL. 12 minutes. Garden 3 3 minutes in one. Man and woman, man doing nearly all the juggling charged to this act, the woman acts as nothing more than a side issue. Some of the juggling stunts were well done, but he failed to arouse good applause. 3 shows. GORDON, VIDOC1 & FLYNN. C. D. F. 21 minutes. Two men and a woman, one man Irish make-up. The sketch made up for laugh making purposes alone, and while there is little sense to it, it served its purpose well this afternoon, gaining many laughs and keeping the audience interested and amused and enabled them to close to very fair applause. Is merely a conventional comedy sketch. 3 shows. CUNNINGHAM & LORD. Drapery in one. 11 minutes. Young man and woman, neatly dressed, who open in song. The man is a fair singer but the woman's ability in this line is hurt by the fact that she is a trifle tongue-tied. Her singing however gets by and when they close each dance alone. With respect to many good dancers that have been here since we opened last September, I firmly believe that Cunningham's dancing is better than that done by any one here in all that time. To my mind he is on a par with John Ford and one or two others and he closed to-day to tremendous applause. In fact it might be said that the act received better applause than any other so far. 3 shows. ALLISON'S PLAYERS. C. D. F. 25 minutes. Another novelty here and really on trial here to-day. We billed it as a one act musical comedy, and while it is fashioned after many of the musical comedies that drop off at this town, it did not arouse the interest we expected. The company consists of four pretty, clever and flip girls. Their flipness is traceable no doubt to previous appearances with burlesque companies and in burlesque houses where this sort of stuff is approved. The four girls sing well, dance well and of good appearance, will be valuable in work of this sort in a very short time, that is when a little of the flipness has disappeared. The one male member Chas. DeLaud, proved himself at a loss today- with an unctuous comedian playing his role, the act would have been considerable more successful. The act closed to very fair applause and I would say that with a little more practice, it will be classed as a good act. 2 shows. laughter and closed him to tremendous applause. 2 shows. MACKWOODS. Own set in 3 6 minutes. Foreign act, familiar as it has only recently played the circuit. Their work is clever and rapid, creates a good impression and enabled them to close to good applause. 2 shows. BIOGRAPH. Kit Carson pictures, all being in colors and while it is not a great set, it interested the audience to-day and aroused good applause at the close. 26 minutes. COMMENT. The good attendance, the natural result of the holiday, may have caused some of the acts to be appreciated better than they would otherwise have been. However, the show is certainly a good one, and indeed, looking over a list of the best shows we have had in the past few months, this one will rank amongst the foremost and might be said to be the best of all we have had. It is a variety show, possessing plenty of variety acts, not burdening any one line of work. To me the business prospects for the week look good. E.. P.. LYONS..
