........oOo....... CRITICISM NEW YORK SHOW: JANUARY 9TH, 1905: ---------------------------- GEO. & MAY WOODWARD: NH-3: In a Yankee character sketch. They impersonate two country kids. There is not much merit to the act. Their singing and dancing at the finish just about lets them out. The audience this afternoon wouldn't have it. Not a hand at the finish. 14 minutes, Full stage. JEANRE & ELLSWORTH: NR-3: Man and woman in a musical specialty. Jeanre was suffering from a severe cold, therefore, was compelled to cut out his singing, which would not amount to much if he was in condition. The woman's singing is only fair. They appeared nervous and did not keep in tune with the orchestra. The act went bad. They made a good appearance, and I think before the week is out they will be fully capable to open the show. In this place on the bill they are a dismal failure. They should break the act in down Kast and not at Keith's, New York. 19 minutes, full stage. ADD. HOYT: HR-3: Black-face monologuist. A good act for the three-a-day-section. Has some good bright material with some excellent parodies. Drop in 1, 13 minutes. TOM ALMOND: NH-3: Novelty dancer, using long shoes and ice skates. Received a lot of applause. Dp. in 1, 12 minutes. AERIAL SMITHS: GRR-3: Man and woman in an aerial trapeze. Very clever. Nice appearance. Always goes big here. 11 M. Full stg. HATHAWAY & WALTON: KR-3: Young men and woman in a singing and dancing act, the dancing being exceptionally good. The singing don't amount to very much. Dp. in 1, 10 minutes. LIQUID AIR: MYH-2: Second week of Liquid Air demonstration by Prof. Rugg. Very interesting. Received a little advance applause. Went fully as strong as last week. Dp.22, 19 Minutes. BROWN & NEVARRO: GYH-2: Tom Brown and Siren Nevarro in a character change act. I think the act is a littel better dressed than when last presented. The material is all old, but went fully as strong. Drop in 1, 13 minutes. TENBROOKE, LAMBERT & CO: GHR-2: Two men and a woman, presenting the musical comedy, entitled, "Prof. Schmalz's Academy". This act is greatly improved. Tenbrooke's violin and piano playing made a big impression. An excellent act and one of the laughing hits of the show. 26 minutes, full stage, close in one, 3 minutes. ELMER TENLEY: GHR-2: Monologuist. First appearance here. Made a big hit. All new material, closed with a recitation. One of the laughing hits of the show. Compelled to put this man in Geo. Evan's place at the last moment, therefore, he is featured on all billing, and the hit he made is fully entitled to it. Dp.1, 18 minutes. [missing line] stand this week, as on the second performance last Monday, we substituted the reel we had shown the previous week, therefore, we are showing last week's reel this week. 20 minutes. S. K. HODGDON. ......o........
