190 CRITICISM - - CLEVELAND, O. - - MAY 8th. THE HURLEYS, Acrobatic Act. A man and a woman, just fair act, only good enough to open the show with. Time 5 minutes full stage. JAS. F. McDONALD, in Songs and Monologue. His singing is better than his talking. Most of the stories he tells have been tol/d here a dozen times this season. He's only good enough for an early spot on the bill, and I wouldn't care to play him again. Time 15 minutes in one. TERLEY, Statue Impersonator. This is a very good act. The man is in a cabinet showing his bust, and the costumes and make-up of the different characters he portrays are made by the woman who assists him. It is a good act, and made a hit here. 10 minutes full stage. LA VALLEE TRIO, Instrumentalists. This act consists of a harpist, violinist and an oboe. Two of the ladies were with the Fadettes' Orchestra. It is a very good act. All in one, 13 minutes. Wm. GOULD & VALESKA SURRATT, Songs & Monologue. The may command a big salary on account of their names, and they probably would draw some money in the east where they are known, but out this way, never. The act consists of all singing and talking. The jokes are old, and for Cleveland, not worth the price. They as for full stage, but can work in one just as well as not. Time 16 minutes full stage. MR. HERBERT KELCEY & MISS EFFIE SHANNON, in just a little sketch "Journeys End in Lovers' [Meeting?]". There is nothing much to the sketch. It's too bad they can't find something better, as they are very capable people, and will no doubt draw some money. Time 22 minutes full stage. ELEANOR FALK, in songs. This woman is going exceptionally well here, better than any single singing act we've played in this house this season. She's one of the hits of a very strong bill this week. Time 10 minutes in 1. SPISSEL BROS. & MACK, Comedy Acrobats. These boys have a very good act, and made good at both performances yesterday. The act is entitled "Scenes in a Cafe", and they have been using an interior, but I got them to change to an exterior, so as to give them more room. The act went much better. They admitted themselves that they could work to be tter advantage. There's no talking to the act at all, and it's full of comedy and good acrobatic work. I'm closing the show with them, and they're going big. Time is 13 minutes full stage. AMERICAN BIOGRAPH. I'm running three pictures this week:- "A New Speed Marvel", "The Kleptomaniac" and "Bathing at Palm Beach in Winter" These are all good films. Time 10 minutes. L. M. [KIRICK?]
