[Overleaf at top of page is folded back and is not legible.] #2. MELVILLE ELLIS:-14 min. in 1. 2 shows. This man's work is of the English drawing-room order, like Mrs. Willa Holt Wakefield's of last week. In fact, the similarity was too close. It looked like a masculine edition of Wakefield. However, the work is very pleasing and his performance on the piano being of a high order of merit gave additional strength to the feature. Mr. Melville is a good entertainer and has a fund of humor, or original order. Received a good reception and closed strong, with an encore, showing that he was thoroughly appreciated. KINETOGRAPH,-- SPECIAL SAN FRANCISCO VIEWS OF EARTHQUAKE AND FIRE:-12 min. Through the courtesy of Mr. Lubin, of Philadelphia, the first pictures of the San Francisco disaster brought to the East, were shown at this point on the bill, and the audience watched them eagerly. They will be a tremendous hit before the week is up. This feature is in the nature of a theatrical "scoop," and will be advertised to the limit. BROWN, HARRIS & BROWN, "Just to Laugh--that's All";-25 min. F.S. 2 shows. Two men and a woman, one man working eccentric. These people are simply immense. They got the crowd going from the first and within a minute or two had them screaming. They proved themselves A.1. for any place on the bill. Close was very strong and got three curtain calls. LUIGI ROSSI and his Musical Horse, "EMIR":-15 min. F.S. 2 shows. This horse does some remarkable feats, and really seems to have an accurate sense of tune. It is a splendid children's act. There is some comedy. It may be called a decided hit of its kind. It would draw anywhere. Act is beautifully dressed. CLIFF GORDON, German Comedian:-15 min. in 1. 2 shows. This man is a born comedian of the best monologue order. His talk was a running fire of wit and pertinent series. There were laughs every moment of the way. Held down this place on the bill splendidly and went off to big applause. RICHARD F. OUTCAULT, Creator of "Buster Brown":- 18 min. in 3. 2 shows. Good advance applause. Began his work by drawing his "Tige" and afterwards the evolutions of "Buster Brown". His talk was good, but it lacked the professional air, though perhaps this is something in its favor rather than otherwise. The drawings were all done quickly, and were familiar to the audience. The children especially appreciated this work. Each one of the drawings was applauses. Think he will go very much stronger to-night and for the rest of the week. We have billed the town very heavily as he is sure to prove a drawing-card. He will never make a Vaudeville performer, but the audience came to see "Buster" and his creator, and the attention showed their appreciation. KATIE BARRY, Comedienne:-15 min. in 1. 2 shows. Received some advance applause. This is a very clever little comedienne. Caught the house from the first with English music-hall style of humor. Her various impersonations and songs were well received, and there were five curtain calls at finish. She sang "Henry Brown" in conjunction with a young man in one of the balcony loges, which helped the act. She will prove a big feature for us. GLOBE OF DEATH;- New and brilliant costuming this week. Man seems to have gained confidence and is more thrillingly reckless than ever. Our only fear is that some screw or nut will work loose and he will break his neck before the week is out. NEWSPAPERS more glowingly favorable in their reports this morning than for a very long time.
