New York Criticism--May 14th, 1906 THE TRILLERS: Rag Pictures. Started off a little tame. Act is alright if not played too often. Received some little applause after each picture. Good opening act. 14 min.-full stage- 2 shows BELL BOY TRIO: Greatly improved since the try-out here last December. Dancing greatly appreciated. Closed very strong. 12 min. in one- 3 shows ETHEL CLIFTON & CO: Presenting the comedy:-"Billy Barkley's Baby." A mistaken identity idea. Opens a little tame, but after the story is told, gets quite interesting. Contains many good laughs and is a good three-show act for second or third on the bill. 17 min.-full stage LILLY SELVILLE: English Versatile Comedienne. Well known. Scored immensely on each of her selections. 12 min. in one- 3 shows LATINA: Physical Culture Girl. This woman holds her own in this class of work and the Jury appreciated her greatly, giving her more applause than any act on the bill up to this time. 11 min. in one-3 FINLAY & BURKE: "Stagehand Satire." Afraid this act is going backwards. The best thing they do is their encore in one which went very strong. Their work on the full stage is the same as when presented here before, securing giggles in spots. 17 min.-closed in one about 4 min- 2 shows FRAULEIN LEHMANN: Presenting:-"The Sleeping Miracle of Strength." This woman has a pleasing personality. By the aid of an assistant, she goes into a trance and while sitting on a chair raises her arms and lifts two stones each weighing about 250 lbs. with a man on each arm. The Jury watched this act very attentively and on the finish,-some hissed and others applauded. It will no doubt, create some talk, but doubt if it would be advisable to hold longer than this week. 10 min.-full stage- 2 shows NICHOLS SISTERS: Kentucky Belles. First time here in years. Applause hit of the show up to this time. 16 min. in one LUIGI ROSSI: Man, woman, two dogs and a horse. Presenting an extreme musical novelty. The horse is a wonder. The greatest we ever had here. Does stunts and plays musical instruments like an ordinary person. The novelty hit of the show. 14 min. -full stage [Text is missing because of the leaf lying over it; text continues:] and they gave her big applause at various times for her work. Closed very strong with three curtain calls. 26 min.-full stage HAWTHORNE & BURT: Hebrew Comedians. Negoiated this spot in great shape. Have some new material with some fuuny eccentric dancing. Finished very strong. 16 min. in one WILTON BROTHERS: Comedy Bars. Secured a big lot of applause for their work and received many good strong laughs for the comedy end. Excellent closing act. 8 min.-full stage KINETOGRAPH: "Shooting Expedition." Good comedy "Carnival Night." Good "A Childish Match" Good
