41 New York Criticism--June 18th, 1906 ----oooOoooo--- BARTO & LAFFERTY: Boy and girl making a very pleasing appearance. The singing just about passes. The toe-dancing of the girl is pretty fair. The man excelled on his dancing. It is a neat little three-show act. 10 min. in one MLLE. EDNA: This woman did not secure any great big applause. She makes a very pleasing appearance and is a pretty fair whistler. Act is alright to dispose of a wait - at the figure pleases. 10 min. in one- 3 ALEXIS &N SCHALL: Comedy Talking and Singing and Contortion. Comedy in this act does not amount to much. Man's contortion work is very good. Did not secure any great big laughs, but managed to get a big applause on the finish. Act always pleases and is thoroughly alright for an early place. 11 min. in two-can work in one- 3 shows GEIGER & WALTERS: In the-"Streets of Italy" Described in previous criticism. This is a mighty valuable three-show act with a little bit of novelty to it. Miss Walter's singing was greatly appreciated. Geiger's Italian dialect and imitations were a scream. Laughing hit of the show up to this time. 22 min. in one. MERRI OSBORNE: Pianologue. Carries her own pianist. This woman is not young by any means, although she dresses the act very nicely and manages to make a pleasing appearance. Her voice does not amount to much. Her pleasing mannerisms and general tone carry the act. The selections are bright, although several numbers are "passe", but she manages to secure some little applause after each number. I presume she could hold down the place on the bill if on before 3 and 9 oclock. 9 min. in two- 2 shows STANLEY & LEONARD: "In a few Vaudeville Ideas". According to previous criticism, I presume this act is greatly improved. There is really no fault to find with them to-day. Stanley's imitations went very strong, while Miss Leonard held her own in her character work. Compelled to take several bows in acknowledgement. 15 min. in one- 2 shows MISS NELLIE BUTLER: assisted by Joseph Dailey: In the one-act comedy:-"A French Marriage." This act contains many good lines with excellennt business. Act was originally written for John S. Rice. In time will develop into a good comedy. Miss Butler was suffering with a severe cold and was unable to do herself justice. They secured quite a number of laughs, and I fully belive it is going to develop into an excellent sketch. 25 min.-full stage- 2 shows 2 men. In their well known acrobatic comedy. Straight man is immense and a very cclever acrobat, all of his work being very strongly applauded. Secured continual laughter throughout specially their encore in one, which was a tremendous hit. Laughing and applause hit of the show. 12 min. closed in one about 3 min. KINETOGRAPH: "Troubles of a Dog" Good "Troubles of a Fireman" Good omedy "Olympic Games of Athens" Interesting N O T E : Weather conditions being favrable, the house was packed to overflowing at both performances. The audience were rather enthusiastic and everything went with a scream. The show is a genuine Mid-Winter Bill, excelling in novelties and star features, and one of the best we have had here for many a day. Compelled to substitute Caron & Herbert for the "Globe of Death."
