69 New York Criticism--August 6th, 1906 EVELYN SISTERS: Two young ladies. Pleasing personality. Make several changes of costume in a series of songs and dances. Singing is nothing to brag over, while the dancing is fairly good. Act is alright to open the show. 10 min. in one- 3 shows WILSON & MAE: Man and woman. Man in this act formerly worked with Davis under the name of Wilson & Davis. Sorry they didn't stay together. Woman makes a fair stage appearance and that lets her out, as her voice is bad, both in talking and singing. Act would just about open the show in the continuous houses in hot weather. 13 min.-1 PAUL FREDERIC: Equilibrist. This young man makes a very pleasing appearance and attempts from very difficult feats. For an early place on the bill, he is thoroughly alright. 9 min.-full stage- 3 shows RHODES & CARTER: 2 men. Acrobatic comedy. One working straight, the other eccentric. Straight man's work is excellent and received some good applause. The comedy end of it is well taken care of. Scored big on their finish. Good three-show act. 17 min.-full stage PROF. M. DUBOIS & HIS WISE APE, "ADAM." Ape seems almost human. Secured quite a number of laughs by following the actions of his master at the dinner table. Finishes with walking the tight-rope blind-folded. On account of the small house, they did not enthuse over this act, but I fully believe it is a little bit of a novelty. Presume under better conditions, would score a big hit. At the price, the act is throughly alright for three shows. 11 min.-full stage. SAONA: Impersonator. This man's impersonations were nicely presented and each one almost perfect, being easily recognized by the critics. 11 min.-full stage- 3 shows E. R. PHILIPS & CO: Man and woman. Presenting the comedy:-"Her Busy Day." The woman looks pretty and that just about lets her out, as she has a bad delivery, although it does not effect the act to any great extent. Philips secured quite a number of laughs and they finished to some good applause. One trip around would be about enough for this act. Prefer not to have it again. 16 min.-full stage- 2 MURRY K. HILL: This man works in blackface. Has a good voice,-sings some very good parodies and received a few laughs for his monologue. Was a little strong-going down here for him. Would go to better advantage if on before 2.30 and 8.30 in the continuous houses. 16 min. in one- 3 SAM ELTON: This man was easily the laughing and applause hit of the show. 11 min HERBERT'S DOGS: One of the best acts of this kind we ever had. All of the various stunts were strongly applauded. Big applause on the finish. 12 min.-full stage. KINETOGRAPH: "The Pigeon Fairy" Fair "The Hand of the Artist" Novel. Very good. Will keep a second week "N. Y. Athletic Games" Quite interesting. Very good "Voyage around the stars" French film. Rather fakey, held the interest, however.
