71 (F. J. O'Connor) Boston Show, Week of August 6, 1906 Fadettes, 2 shows, 60 min. full stage--The usual new program of selections but not so good as those they have been giving us of late. Then again, it seemed doubly worse on account of the lack of appreciation shown by the audience, perhaps owing to the very oppressive weather. Clifford and Burke, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--Blackface comedians, singers and eccentric dancers. Well-known on the circuit. Had considerable new material but the eccentric dancing was what first got any sign of appreciation by the dead crowd. Donat Bedini, 3 shows, 9 min. in 3--Fairly clever tumbler, who had a clever canine. this act is something on the order of that given here a short time ago by Grace Childers, but I do not think it is as good. It went fairly well in this spot this afternoon. Ray Cox, 2 shows, 15 min. in 1--Comedienne, storyteller, with some dancing and a good imitation of Bert Williams. this girl has a very pleasing personality and a delightful Southern accent. She has improved wonderfully since she was here last, about two years ago, and I look for her to score quite a hit tonight. Estelle Wordette, 2 shows, 18 min. in 5--In the comedy sketch, "A Honeymoon in the Catskills". Has been described from the other houses. Got lots of laughs today and will no doubt go very well when we have any kind of an audience. Dixon and Anger, 2 shows, 14 min. in 1--German comedians. Well-known on the circuit. these chaps were stalled on the Fall River line boat, which met with an accident off New London, and were late in getting here, so we put them in this spot. They were compelled to work in street costume, as the baggage had not arrived, which no doubt handicapped them. Went about as they usually do in this house, which is passable, by no means scoring a hit. Zingari Troupe, 2 shows, 20 min. open full stage, close in 1--Five men and three women, presenting a spectacular vocal specialty, "Gypsy Life". They carry a lot of scenery and stage effects and the act is appropriately costumed throughout. They are all excellent vocalists, and I have not the least doubt but what they will score a big hit tonight. As it was, they were probably the applause hit of the show, and no fault whatever can be found with the act in any particular. Four Everetts, 2 shows, 14 min. full stage--Two men and two women in equilibristic juggling and acrobatic specialties. first time here. Most all of their work is very clever and they aroused considerable applause. The equilibristic male member is not near so clever as many we have had here, but the act went all right today and as it is new, I think it will prove satisfactory throughout the week. Comment:- We were blessed with one of our typical frosty summer audiences today, and as a consequence, everything went so-so. In fact, it would be an injustice to the show and any of the individual performers to attempt to criticise from this afternoon's performance. We had a very slight house and those that were there evidently appreciated the fact that the thermometer was soaring to 90 and above and the humidity was in equal proportion.
