75 PHILADELPHIA SHOW. AUGUST 13. 1906. C.E. BARNS. BERT MARION AND SABEL DEANE. Refined Comedy. 13 min. Op, in 3, close in 1. 3 shows. Man and woman, the latter a pretty face and figure, with good voice and selection of songs. Makes a very good opener. Marion's dialect stuff went especially well. There was a good line of talk which brought scattered laughs. Went off to a good hand and received curtain-call. O.K. for even a better place on the bill. THE LUCADOS.--Jugglers, novelty heavy-weight balancers, etc. 13 min. in 3. 3 shows. This is interesting and unhackneyed work. Woman is something more than a mere helper, and some of her stunts brought a good hand as his invariably did. The finale, when the man balances woman on bicycle, scored big. A good act for an early place on the bill. JOSIE ALLEN.--Impersonations. 3 shows. 12 min. in 1. A very pleasing personality, breezy and vivacious. Got hold of her audience at once and held their attention throughout. New material, all bright. Two recalls at the finish. Recommended for even a better spot on the bill. PICCOLO MIDGETS.--14 min. Op. in 1, close f.s. 2 shows. For suck a quick return for these little people they went with a storm. In fact, they went even better than before and being the applause hit so far, will justify a better location. Act same as previous, but there is no possible doubt about their being a drawing card with little and big children. Two recalls. MORROW & SCHELLBURG.--12 min. in 1. 2 shows. Morrow's laughing song caught on right away, and Miss Schellburg sings with grace and precision. Got a good hand throughout, and a curtain-call after the best rendition of "Cheyenne" we have heard here. These people are also too clever to remain up the line. Belong safely at 8.30. MINNIE DUPREE & CO. Sketch, "When the Earthquake came." Very timely and in spots brilliantly written sketch of San Francisco disaster, occupying 18 min, F.S. 2 shows. The pathos is strong, but at times it is a little drawn out in agony. There was some comedy and also some heroic lines that brought laughter and applause in spots, but the sketch is serious--perhaps a little too much so without relief. It held the attention closely however. Miss Dupree received some advance applause, and a good hand at the close. CARSON & WILLARD.-- 'Frizzled Finance." 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. Immense German dialect stuff, every line of which got a laugh. Went so strong that they will go down the line tonight. One of the best acts of the kind we have had. Good topical song which won two encores and a curtain-call. All O.K. BARNEY FAGAN & HENRIETTA BYRON.--22 min in 3. Protean Burletta called "Idle Fancy," None too coherent, but containing some bright material which the big jury took greedily. The several changes of costume are effective, the gown Miss Byron wears at the close--an electrically illuminated creation--won a round of applause. These people show their long experience as entertainers and make the best of every minute. LEE HARRISON.--17 in 1. "Stories from Life." Opened by singing the "Sherlock Holmes" song, which took well. The rest of his material is mainly new, and better than when he last visited us. Made a particular hit with a topical song, introducing some local lines. All right for a hard place. ZINGARI TROUPE.--20 min, F.S. Cl in 1. "Gypsy Life." A very spectacular and altogether satisfactory vaudeville feature. There is singing, dancing, violin solos (the girl with the violin is a genius) and a little mild comedy. Audience gave it every appreciation, applauding liberally and insisting on encore and two curtain-calls at the finish. Big 8 to 8.30 feature.
