144 Report on show, Keith's theatre, Providence, R. I., Week of October 29, 1906. (Chas. Lovenberg, Manager.) The bill this week is far from satisfactory. There is very little on the bill that is both new and good, two elements that are needed sadly here. The show contains a number of conflicting acts and some very mediocre ones in one, which I am obliged to give too important a position to. It is one of those bills that it is impossible to arrange and get right. Viola & Engel. Two men, one straight - barrel jumping and acrobats, the other, a clown. Good 3-a-day act. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. The Burkes. Singing and piano playing, man with a little comedy as a "messenger boy." All right for an early spot. 15 min. open in 2, very short close in 1, 3 shows. Cavana. Contortionist on slack wire. This is an exceptionally good act and I would have liked to have given him a better place on the bill, but didn't want to get him too near the O'Meers Sisters. 10 min. full stage, 3 shows. Arlington Comedy Four. Well-known three a day act which is exceptionally valuable from that standpoint and at the price. 17 min. in one, 3 shows. Will Mead & Dog. This is a wonderfully trained animal, he does some calculations, reading, etc, with less indications of directions from his master than any animal I ever saw, but the act is marred considerably by the very evident fact that the dog is very much afraid of his master. 15 min. in 1, 2 shows. Monroe & Wesley. I only corroborate what has been said by the other reports that this is a very bad act from a two a day standpoint. At $125. with three shows it would be all right. No stretch of the imagination could make it worth any more. 17 min. in 1, 2 shows. Valerie Bergere & Co. In "His Japanese Wife". Too well known to comment, but has been seen here a little too often to be of value. On Thursday, she is to produce a new play which I will report on. "His Japanese Wife" 30 min. full stage, 2 shows. Village Choir. The usual singing act which rates about the same, as always, quite good. 16 min. in 1, 2 shows. Sam Elton. Pantomimic comedy as usual, work of falling, breaking dishes, etc, which he does most artistically. Best act of the kind that I know of and was well received. 12 min. full stage, 2 shows. Rooney Sisters. Considering the lack of voices of these girls and that their dancing is by no means extraordinary, I hardly believe they should be out of the 3-a-day class. I know that we play some 3-a-day sister acts that do just as well as these girls. At any rate they are entirely inferior to the spot I am obliged to give them in order to get them away from the dancing of the Arlington Four. 10 min. in 1, 2 shows. Col. Gaston Bordeverry. Whatever business we do this week will be more due to this man's sensational work than to anything else on the bill. It may be all right to class McRae & Poole with him - as far as the shots - but the entire presentation of the act, and the impression created on the minds of the public are many miles from being the same. This man has a finished artistic act, presented in an artistic given us. 10 min. full stage, 2 shows. Motion Pictures. O. K.
