Phila.-#2. MYSTERIOUS HOWARDS, Telepathy:- 20 min. in 2. 2 shows. On at 8:15. These are very clever people, the mind reader being a man of apparently astounding powers. The work is similar to the Zancig's, but even swifter. The man is blindfolded and his confederate passes through the audience touching and examining articles, all of which are named by the operator on the stage. The silent telepathy work was particularly interesting and won a strong hand. There is no doubt about the ability of this act making good with the thinking part of the audience, as it certainly mystifies them. Received good hand at the finish. Fear it is not novel and brilliant enough to cause as wide comment as it otherwise would. STANLEY & LEONARD. A few Vaudeville Ideas:- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:35. Man and woman, both working straight. Well known on the Circuit. Slight variations from their previous act. Songs and imitations went well and held down place. Finish was good, with curtain call. THE UESSEMS, Head and Hand Balancers:- 13 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:50. Advance applause. Same act as last week, and is certainly one of the strongest of the kind in Vaudeville. These little fellows are marvels and will certainly be the wonders of the world, if they live and continued to develop. Close as strong as last week. VILLAGE CHOIR, Vocalists:- 17 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:03. Well known on the Circuit. Made quite the same unqualified hit that they have done previously. This act could hold down any place on the bill with credit. Closed big, as usual. EDWIN ARDEN and CO.; "Behind Closed Doors":- 20 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:2[?] The plot concerns the defalcation of a bank cashier who also is trustee for the estate of the girl whom he desires to marry. The scene takes place in the library of his friends after a gambling bout. The girl in the case was formerly loved by the friend who now desires to protect the defaulter. The girl calls upon him and requests him not to bring his guest into any gambling difficulties on account of his mother and sister, confessing at the same time that her engagement was broken some time before. The play winds up happily and the girl returning to her former lover, the gambler's good Samaritan. The play is a little serious, is well written and contains a good many dramatic situations and lines. Arden is quite himself in the part of the hero, and Miss Trautman is very beautiful and takes her part with a good deal of grace and magnetism. Fairchild, as the defaulter is not so good. The end is rather abrupt. It would have held the interest of the audience considerably longer, and as one critic said, "When the curtain went down, it seemed as if it ought to rise again and the play go on".-The finish was good. Think it will make good with our box crowd for the rest of the week. CARSON & WILLARD, "Frizzled Finance":- 15 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:40. This is rather a quick return for this act, the previous appearance being in the middle of August. However, it is one of the best, if not the best Dutch team in Vaudeville. There were very few variations from the act as presented here before. Received advance applause, and won lots of laughs throughout, with a strong close. desirable program on account of the holiday week, as there is plenty of comedy which appeals to the masses. Thanksgiving Day and the two days following will bring thousands of people to the theatre who come only rarely and we feel sure that they will carry away a good impression of the KEITH show, from this bill. FEJ.
