213. DEC. 31, 1906. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E.BARNS. THREE MADCAPS,Dancers:- 12 min. F. S. 3 shows. On at 6:38. Make a very good opener. Their work is more sprightly and interesting than when here before, and finish was particularly good. Went off to a very good hand. The introduction of the new third member is an improvement. LA BELLE TRIO,Comedy musical act:- 9 min. in 2. 3 shows. On at 6:50 (opens and closes in 1. Short singaphone feature in 2.) Three men, one working straight, one Dutchman and the third "Buster". Act leads off with some conundrums in minstrel style, followed by songs which are fairly well rendered, and got good applause. The singing is the best part of this act, and each selection was well received. Act should be cut down as it is a little too long. Held down this place very well, notwithstanding. ED ESTUS, Equilibrist:- 9 min. in 3. 3 shows. On at 7:09. Well known on the Circuit Is one of the best of the three-a-days. His remarkable feat of balancing on pedestal, supported on two chairs and four bottles on an upright couch got an immense hand, as it well deserved. The holiday crowd this week took this man with great gusto and he closed as strong as any three-a day act we have had for a long time. This man could fill a much better spot on the bill with credit. CONNOR & RAYMOND,Songs and Dances:- 12 min. in 2, close in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:18.This is a very good little three-a-day act. Miss Raymond makes a good appearance, and her singing is to the standard while her dancing is considerable for a novelty. Received very good hand. The man's dancing is more than fair, and he managed to get by very well. on the whole, the act is O.K.in the three-a-day class, and was put further down the line after the opening show. The only weak part of the act is the talking, which is not bright nor especially well delivered and too local to New York. Close was strong for this sort of an act, showing that it pleased. ZISKA & KING,Burlesque Magic:- 14 min. F. S. close in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:35 An excellent act for the early part of the two-a-day section. The tricks are for the most part new and expert, and the comedy work kept the crowd in roars of laughter. The conjurer is becomingly dressed in red and the comedian as "Bosco", the fool. The act is full of ginger all teh way through and there are surprises enough tot keep the audience in good humor. Close in 1 includes ring-trick which is very ancient, but the majority of the magician's work is a novelty. Could go down in the line with credit. Closed well, with one curtain call. TOM MOORE,Coon-shouter:- 11 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 7:59. Well known on the Circuit. Received advance hand. Made a decided hit with the holiday crowd. Sang three songs and responded to two encores besides. TOM EDWARDS,Ventriloquist:-20 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:10. Advance applause. This act is not very much on versatility, but it is certainly one of the most expert ventriloquial acts that we have ever played. When it comes to compare with Reynard it falls short of variety and sight features,
