229 (handwritten) 229 JAN. 7, 1907. PHILADELPHIA SHOW. C.E.BARNS. GATES & NELSON, Globe acro:- 11 min. F. S. 3 shows. On at 6:33. Two young men working in a thletic costumes, doing various athletic stunts and doing them quite well. Makes a good opener. The work with the Indian-clubs got fair hand. The jump from one globe to another over four chairs got applause. Finish, for this sort of an act, was good. ARTHUR FISHER, Mimetic Com:- 10 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:44. This act makes up in versatility what it lacks in excellence. He imitates various instruments, the banjo, mandolin, phonograph, and animal sounds. Each one pf them was kindly received. Made a very fair close. Could not hold a stronger place in a house like this. DE VAUX SISTERS, Dancers:-11 min. in 1. 3 shows. On at 6:54. These girls managed to make up for lack of good looks by stunning costumes, and there is a certain vivacity that makes the act go. The singing is fairly good and got good hand. The dancing part is the better part and brought them a good finish with a curtain call. WISE & MILTON,Comedians:- 20 min.in 2. 3 shows. On at 7:05. This only just about gets by.(Man and woman, colored). The comedy is of the lower order and the laughs were not very frequent. The singing was good and received good applause in spots. Both change to Indian costumes as a finish, and sing a song which gets a good hearing. On the whole the act just about holds this spot and that is all. MCINTYRE & BENNETT,"When Do We Eat":-16 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:35. This act made good with the line of talk that was fairly bright. The laughs were frequent and they closed acceptably. They do not belong in the two-a-day section at all,- at least, with the line of talk they are now offering. We have had three-a-days that were better. FERRY CORWEY, Musical Clown:-10 min. F. S. 2 shows. On at 7:40. Well known on the Circuit. Gave the evidence from the very start and had the audience laughing quick. comes on stage in large comic costume that rolls on casters. Discloses himself as a clown, and plays various instruments of unusual kinds. There is lots of ginger and humor in this act and pleased the younger element. The act is full of surprises. Closed very good. HAMILTON HILL, Aust. Baritone:- 10 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 7:50. This man's singing is true and virile, if not very artistic or showing great training. Each one of his songs got liberal applause. His closing number was the "Do-re-mi-fa-so-la-si-do" song which has been sung here so many times, and got the smallest hand of all. He wins the audience with a certain confident manner which is always liked and they showed a fitting welcome to a new name from the antipodes. Will do better later I believe. ...way of three-a-day acts.... last week and week before BESSIE WYNN is making good splendidly but VOLTA'S act seems to lack the element of surprise. The fact that he takes a heavy voltage of static electricity is not so surprising, but when he claims to be able to take a heavy voltage of direct current from a live wire everybody knows that that is nonsense. We had planned to have some scientists see Volta's act and give us comments, but there was not enough of the element of novelty in the man's work to justify it. Business continues to be big. The following cuts and objections were made in our show this week:- BURKE & DEMPSEY:- "I saw the humerous side of your wife". WISE & MILTON:- The expression "gallery gods" and reference to chewing tobacco. FEJ.
