#2.-Phila. COUNT DeBUTZ & BROTHER, Bicycle-act:- 13 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:02. Two men. This is a good comedy cycle act and seemed to please the crowd. Got a good many laughs and some applause. The finishing feat where the Count rides on one wheel of the cycle, with his brother standing on his shoulders got a big hand, as it deserved. EDITH HELENA:-Vocaliste:- 10 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:15. There is no doubt that Miss Helena's voice is most marvellous in purity, sureness of tone and range. She filled this theatre with perfect ease and delighted the audience. The imitation of a violin got an immense hand and brought two curtain calls. It is a little unfortunate that Miss Helena has not the presence and person magnetism that wins the audience quicker, as she is neither beautiful nor prepossessing, but her voice certainly wins all parts of the house. Will draw music-lovers. NITA ALLEN & CO. "In Car2,-Stateroom 1":- 28 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:25. As for the objections that have been found elsewhere with regard to the ginger in this act, I cannot see that they are justified. This is one of the brightest and most novel sketches that we have played, and hods deepest attention throughout. As is well know, the action turns on the fact that a young man and a young woman travel upon passes of a husband and wife, whose credentials they have come by scarcely with credit. The situations that follow when they are assigned to the same stateroom are very amusing. Of course, there is a chance here for people who are supersensitive to raise objections, but the theme is handled with extreme care and avoidance of anything vulgar or risque. The lines are bright from start to finish and climaxes when the minister unites the two offenders, showing Cressy's fine stage-craft and brings the act to a rousing close. There is no question about the success of this act with our audiences, and I cannot imagine where it could be otherwise than well received by the most critical audience. MELVILLE ELLIS, Pianologue:- 21 min. in 1. 2 shows. On at 8:53. (Grand piano shoved under drop 2) Advance hand. This an is certainly a hit with our crows. He caught the crowd in a minute and kept them through four numbers, with three recalls. In fact, the audience did not seem to get enough of his work. He has improved immensely since he was here last, and seems to have caught on to the American spirit and know how to give them what they want. Could easily go down and hold any spot on a Vaudeville bill. FRANCELIAS,Belgian Hercules:- 16 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 9:14. This act was a surprise in novelty. We expected to see an ordinary strong-man act and in reality it turned out to be very show-shape and at the same time, artistic and spectacular in every particular. Man works in Roman gladiator costume, some thing like Sandow, and is one of the most powerful and at the same time skilful performers we have ever had here. The woman works straight and is a handicap to the act, not a help. A good comedian as a helper would double the value of the act. Francelias has a lot of very showy paraphenalia such as catapules, torpedos, cannon-balls, etc. His work appears to be genuine and professional in every particular. There was good applause throughout, with a big close. One of the best acts of the kind in Vaudeville He went down the line after the first performance.
