39. NEW YORK CRITICISM----MAR. 4th, 1907. (2) BRUCE & DAGNEAU---Two young women very prettily gowned. Voices a good deal better than the usual three show sister act. They wear three costumes and close with special Indian drop etc. Fair applause, good value for money and time. Three shows open in one. Close 2 1/2.11 minutes. (3) BLACK & JONES---Two colored men in singing and Rapid fire dancing. The dancing of these boys is certainly excellent, and as good as any I have had for some time. They took the house by storm. A Corking good three show act, and could stand a much better place. 10 minutes in one. (1) COGAN & BANCROFT---Two men in singing, talking and roller skating. Straight and Comedy (?) The opening of the act, singing and talking is very weak. However their skating is excellent. 13 minutes, full stage. Short close in one. CHAS. SERRA---Equilibrist and poser. Very good act. Good looking man; good paraphernalia difficult and neat work. Received good applause. Special Black drop. 9 minutes, full stage. NORA KELLY----Billed as "The Dublin Girl." Young woman with fair personality with flagrant low necked green costume. First two songs went well. Three shows. 10 minutes in one. JULES GARRISON & CO.----Mr. Garrison in his well known act supported by a large lady Miss Rose Parker who is very fair to look on and plays the part very well indeed. The hit of the sketch was made by the Stage Hands who proved themselves good "Comics". 18 minutes, full stage. One Special Scene Change to Palace. JACKSON FAMILY---Four men and Four women in a Bicycle Act. An act which is certainly a close second to the Kaufman Troupe. Their evaluations were splendid, correctly done and received big applause. There is a welcome absence of trickery about their "Stunts". The smallest of the girls is remarkably clever. I have had too many of these acts latey, but this one got as much applause as any. 13 minutes, full stage. BOSTON QUARTETTE---Four young ladies in street costume in vocal selections. Their voices are really good, and blend splendidly. The Soprano is especially good. Selections all good. I think the act might be improved a little by having one or two selections without orchestra, giving the audience a chance to hear the quality of the three voices outside of the Soprano. 14 minutes, full stage. Close in one. WILLIAM THOMPSON & CO. ---In the well known sketch "For Love's Sweet Sake." One of the best sketches I have ever seen, but as I thought it is a little too good for this house. Mr. Thompson's work was splendid, and Mr. Inoe was also convincing, but his work is a little over done. Two calls. 22 minutes, full stage. PEKIN ZOUAVES---Great act. The accuracy of their "double time" drill got big applause, and held the audience spell bound. The finale of the act of course was a yell, and the scaling scene was simply great, and the curtain fell to deafening applause. 12 minutes, full stage. Special backing. KINETOGRAPH----A Clever Thief. Interesting. A Winter in Switzerland. Beautiful film that got applause. The Haunted Hotel. Funny "Fake" Pictures. NOTE----Outside of the Crane Bros. an ideal show from start to finish even the three show acts are "almost human". Audience went out delighted, and notwithstanding Lent I look for a big week. I have started ten minute overtures twice a day which arae getting good applause. Lindsay Morison.
